You're right, it will fill the crankcase with the vac line connected. The vac. line will pull the fuel right out of the regulator if the diaphragm is ruptured and feed it directly into the intake, then into the cylinders, past the rings and into the crankcase.

So we agree that he needs to replace his FPR then?

It happened to me,same symptoms,I didn't know jack,then it hydrolocked trying to start it.Glad I didn't bend a rod.

When I was talking about the boost gauge.What happen was it spooled all the way up till the car start knocking.I had to get off the gas.My car usally hits it's max boost & then comes down.But not that time.It also made the temp go up!

Called the dummy at autozone.And he can't seem to find a fpr for my car he says.Where can I pick up one today? :squint:

i think a grand national uses the same one. take it off and go in and compare


update -- the auto zone part number is 800-114, just looked it up online. and it shows the oem part number to be 25523720

Hmmm, not sure if a FPR for a turbo actually increases pressure when you have a boost condition, or if it acts like a standard FPR and only increases it up to atmospheric pressure.
Have to let a more experienced SyTy'er answer that one.

[Maliik] I replace mine with a AFPR and the pressure that the truck likes is 45 lb. With the stock press it was 35 lb at idle, which is higher than you started with in your 1st post.

yes the fpr on these trucks is a 1 to 1, meaning 1lb of boost 1lb increase in fuel pressure and works in reverse 1in vacum equals minus 1lb of fuel pressue. so if your base fp is 45 and boost to 15lbs you get 60psi of fp. and at idle with 20 inches of vacum it should be 25psi for the fp if i remember right

There, now I learned something today.
Except, 20"hg (vac) is equal to the loss of 10 PSI, not 20 PSI. So at idle with 20"hg your fuel pressure should be 35 PSI, which makes sense according to the post above.

Well fellas!I pulled vac line of of FPR and there's nothing coming out of it.With truck at idle fp is 25.When I rev it up it max out at 40.This is in park.So now what?

ok the fuel pressure sounds low but my truck hasn't ran in about two years since i popped a piston. if the fpr was bad then you've probably fouled the plugs, pull a couple out and check and see what they look like.

My spec's state that fuel pressure should be between 38-42 PSI with the vac line off the regulator, at idle. Sounds to me like you're in that ball park.
Have you checked your base timing?

Thanks Don.It runs but i don't know if can make that 45 min ride.After seeing your truck at Sears Point,I'd love your help.Talk to j waller &mike (rpm) today.Me and my uncle check the timing.We found out that, the mark on the harmonic balancer was not close to(tdc).One mark was actualy at the bottom of the truck.I think i'am on a mission know for a new distr,harm blancer &new afpr.That should fix any problem right....

There are two marks on the damper, don't let that confuse you.. And maybe we could set up a mission for me to come there. Will work for lunch and chocolate.

I also have a damper that, as best as I can tell, is not slipped.

I'm concerned that you're just throwing parts at it (which I'm guilty of as well) and want to save you the trouble.

That's a pretty decent offer. I'd take him up on that. One wrong guess or a replaced part that wasn't the problem is gonna cost you a lot more then lunch and chocolate.
Although, I've never heard of a Man working for chocolate... :dunno:
