Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

I just got this thing a couple weeks ago and planned to do up a nice 4.3 for it but after doing the research it just doesnt make sense to invest in a motor that has such limited options and high cost. $3000 for aluminum heads is more than i spent on my bbc pro actions 8 years ago.
anyway, i picked up a 5.3 yesterday for $275 and have begun looking for a 4l80e and the rest of the fun parts for the swap.
here is the build thread from my 2wd s10, which i ended up doing some pretty silly cutting and welding to.

I look forward to some extensive plasma and tig use in my near future.

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

I havent put many pictures up of the typhoon yet cause its so dirty from sitting outside for a few years and i havent had a chance to clean it up well yet. Ill get a few more pictures of it when its light tomorrow. i have the grill for it, and all the cladding is there. as far as i can tell the truck is 100% complete.

I bought the truck from my neighbor who was the 2nd or 3rd or more owner and didnt really know much of the history. It was fast at some point, it has a bigger turbo and a bunch of other stuff.

my friend and i got a couple 5.3s yesterday and I picked up a 03ish 4l80e a few minutes ago.

I actually love the van 4l80e's that have a long splined shaft that can be cut to length. If you are taking it apart it might be worth swapping in for more shaft engagement!

When I read post #1 for some reason I thought your were building your Ty from that build. Then I reread it and saw that was your truck. Some pretty nice fab work on the s-10. Looking forward what you do on the Typhoon.

Whoa is that some old pictures of it?
Do you know anything about it? I know almost nothing of its history except it was brought to Florida from, I think, Arizona about 5 years ago

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

I'm afraid I don't know much. AZ is possible - it looks like it from those pictures. I saved the ones from an ebay/CL ad from a few years back when I was looking for a style I liked. The darker cladding and 5 spoke wheels was what I wanted and influenced what I ended up with...

The junkyard engine and transmission are the cheap part of the conversion. It;s good to see that you already have some experience with a LS swap into a S-Serires so you should have a good idea of the work and costs. Are you going to turbo charge this one?

I mean the billet street lites on your s10.

as far as i know i am the only one running the black ones on an s10, but i have seen a few with the polished ones.

I managed to control the costs on the s10 fairly well, but i still ended up with a small fortune in it. I am going to try to get the costs down a little further on this one.
Definitely plan to turbo it, however i have not decided which one yet. I am considering putting a smaller/faster turbo on the s10 and using the gt45 from it on the ty.

Re: Getting ready to lsx swap my typhoon

started disassembly. Its going to be slow moving for another week or two, then progress should start happening much faster

You may be able to get some good coin for those headers to help fund your swap..
