ghettosled track Round 2... sort of

well today some of my buddies were testing the new drag radial tires for Nitto, and invited me to come along to the private test session..

Ever been to the track with 1 other car, and no tech inspection? it was pretty nice :)

Anyways, i got a new personal best 60ft, and 330. Geez, i sound like Ed Hess here.. lol

Stupid me forgot the boost controller, but fixed the sputter problem from the last time out. So we just twaeked the suspension to see what we could get away with. The track wasnt there after 300ft (i was the only one going past the 100ft mark), so it would spin as the boost came in. we tried about 4 hits then packed it up.....

Anyways, still on the MT 275 radial tire. no wheelie bars, or parachute.

This pic was with a 4000rpm launch, and 8psi. 60ft was 1.34 and 330 was 3.8X

This pic we raised two step to 4500 and left with 12psi. Not sure what the camera man was thinking, maybe checking for a driveshaft loop? 60ft on this pass was a 1.40 on the back tires obviously.. spun before i got to the 330.

I like it how in the second pic you can actually see in the engine bay.

You might want to consider wheelie bars before you launch any harder. That cladding isnt cheap. :rotf: If it were mine though I'd break it off on the pavement just to say that I could do it

being that it is only our second time to the track we are still trying to figure out what works and what doesnt. Last week i swapped to a 1" longer spring in the front to level out the truck, which then made my limiters too short.. Disconnecting them (even with the shock rebound in its stiffest position) created big wheelies, and by hooking them back up (eliminating the upward suspension travel) made the truck spin.

So I'm pretty sure we have a good idea now of how much travel the front end needs in order to work, but not flip over backwards.

we're definately getting closer to nice consistant launches. Would love to lay down some numbers at a 1/4 miles track b/c last night on the street with 20psi it felt insane... Found out real quick it doesnt stop as well as it should :)

whoa wait mike.... your not trying hard enough.

looks to me you still got at least 6-7 inches left between the track and the rear bumper. quit being a pussyfoot and step into it.

pics are sweet man... great work.

you drive this on the street? that kicks ass

Being a turbo motor and on a DOT tire I dont see why he would not. That truck is probabllly 100% streetable and gets decent mileage.

Now what I want to see personally his for Mike to enter than truck in the Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags, be awsome to see a truck competing and to be doing it on a DR to boot!

I don't know you but 1200 hp and 2wd doesn't sound all that streetable to me. Then again your motor is never going to be doing one those Lexus commercials tricks where they are balancing the penny or champagne glass...

well aside for the fact the gas costs $12 a gallon and traction is obsolete at 1000hp boost levels, it drives around fine. I even drove past 2 cops the other night and i dont think they even noticed.

Definately not something i would classify as a "street car" but it is streetable.

This post is no good without a 1/4 time!!

So what do you think it would run? 8? 7? maybe 6?

The cops will notice a parachute in the back. You will need one to stop that beast.

The missing of speed and ET in 660 and 1320´markers is a drag :D

But according ONLY to the 60´(1,34 its good) and the 330`(3.8?? High or low??)
I´d guess fairly well on a 9,2? to 9,5? et IF everything works the whole line out..

But the info is to small to do a precise prediction.

Yes, I'd like to know about them too. Nice pics BTW.

well they had about 8 different compounds, sidewalls etc.. from what i saw, one set worked ok... they were supposed to test some more tires today, but b/c of the rain last night they cancelled. It was a long tedious process (measureing before/after, temperatures, etc, etc)

trying to get some 1/4 mile times believe me :)

Kinda hard when the 1/4 mile tracks are obsolete within 3 hours... we will be renting fontana again in a few weeks, so with my physical in hand they should let me run some full passes with higher boost now.

So do you bring extra underwear to the track?

I crapped myself twice just looking at those pics so I can't imagine how it would be actually driving a beast like that.
