I'm new to this site and I'm trying to help my friend with his Syclone he just bought. Does anyone know how much power one these gilbert props can take??? Is there any other aftermarket props out there and reasonable priced, just trying to explore the options. thanks, jeremy

I don't think anyone has actually broken a gilbert propshaft? I know someone else will correct me if i'm wrong. But it's really the best way to go. It's like $350 bucks and you don't have to worry about it again.

Correct. Some of the quickest trucks out there are running one. When installled properly, (it comes with instructions *read* them) there have been NO failures or vibration problems associated with this propshaft EVER.

Re: Gilbert Front Prop Shaft

Just got my shaft yesterday... for a total of $370 and some change. It came with an itemized list of parts and labor cost which was pretty cool. The owner said they keep going up on price due to the ever rising prices of the metals they have to use which looks like the problem according to the price sheet. Either way no one's ever broken one yet due to extrem power/toruqe and you can't beat it for the price when other's charge even more for a smaller piece.

$370 is still a lot cheaper than the other $500 Propershafts which have issues (either breaking or vibration)...

Re: Gilbert Front Prop Shaft

Yeah the looks of it compared to my two stockers and one custom fab'd one is worth the $370 alone..

For all the "newbies" out there:

"That's NOT a propshaft."

THAT_S_a_propshaft.sized.jpg

"THAT'S a propshaft. Transmission range select lever has to be cut and rewelded due to the girth of this shaft. It also has ZERK fittings so that you can grease it on the truck."

"18.8# OEM propshaft."

11_9_MEGA_propshaft.sized.jpg

"11.9# MEGA propshaft. Front yoke not pictured, prolly adds about a pound and a half to weight. Contact Bruce Gilbert @ Gilbert Driveline in NH 603-623-3061. $318.60 shipped in 10/01."

Re: Gilbert Front Prop Shaft

I stand behind Gilbert as well. Had one in two preivous Sy's and my current Sy, ZERO problems and zero vibration.

My current Sy has had one since it was built and has seen plenty of violent launches without incident. Definitely one I would highly recommend.

Not that the Gilbert needs any more thumbs up but IMO its well worth it considering the stocker can break then take out the trans case from the loose end flinging around under the truck. I can recall two or three ppl thats happened to over the years on here so the Gilbert set up is extra insurance that is more than worth the cost.

Broken front drive shaft+busted trans case=BIG $$$
Gilbert shaft=priceless

Welp, the stock propshaft strikes again (and again and again). If you don't choose to upgrade your propshaft, you had better get a safety loop... I took mine off after I got the Gilbert and sold it because I knew that I would never need it.

Do you need both safety loops for trucks with AWD going into the 12's - 11's? I know you need a loop here if you are running under 13s, so I think you would need both to pass inspection?

Re: Gilbert Front Prop Shaft

How much extra weight do the front and rear loops add? If it's equal or less than 7 lbs., I suppose the added weight would be offset by the lighter Gilbert propshaft no? This is definitely on my mods list.

Re: Gilbert Front Prop Shaft

The safety loop recomendation is not based on a NHRA rule but on experience.

You WILL wish you had one, if the propshaft breaks.

I have seen a truck with a safety loop still take out part of the tranny case, dent floor, etc. Imagine what would happen without one.

~$100 is safety loop can save you $1k-$2k in destruction later.
