GM "Pink" rods

Anybody know anything about these? I went back and talked to my old auto shop teacher who know a lot about 4.3s. I brought up the discussion of rod choices and he mentioned the pink rods as the best factory rod GM put out. He also dissed Eagles pretty bad but I was thinking that this was only since he didn't have a set to sell me. I haven't heard a bad thing about eagles from anybody here.

as i remember they were a high performance rod offered by chevy back when that were i'm almost certain forged. they came from ed pink and were good stuff. i don't think the eagles are as bad as he seemed to think. they are on the less espensive side of forged rods and a lot of guys use them for a price issue. there are better rods out there, lighter and stronger, but also much more expensive

He offered me the set of rods for 250 with ARP hardware, but since I have a hook up at a local belle tire store and he wants a set of rims for his blazer, he said he would give me the rods for free if I got him a hook up. He also had a set of oliver rods, that he wants 500 for. I'm thinkin I should tell him to give me a good price on the olivers since I'll be getting him a deal on the rims.

I thought you couldnt use "350" rods on a 4.3L??? thus the pink rods wouldnt even be an option?

you cant use SBC rods. the big end is way different.

if the fella is willing to make you a deal on the olivers go for it. they are a better rod. i have olivers attached to j&e racing on my forged crank and bowtie. i think it is an excellent combination. it is a very strong motor. i wish i could afford a bigger turbo :(

why not? same boreXstroke :-? not questioning, just curious...

The big end is bigger, narrower, and slightly offset compared to the SBC rod
isnt the chamfer or something related to oiling different also?

Yeah, even fire 4.3 rods are chamfered on both sides compared to the common pin odd fire 4.3 and SBC.

Basically SBC rods will interchange if youre using the odd fire (common pin) crank.

This is the plan, if he deals on the olivers then ill go that way. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't even have mentioned the pink rods if they were not an option, but he could be wrong. So yes or no, can I use them?

well he is wrong, read the posts above, YOU CANNOT USE 5.7L RODS ON AN EVEN FIRE V6. They did not make "pink" rods for a 4.3L, therefore they are NOT an option.

I talked to this guy again today, about the olivers and the pink rods. He was fully aware of the even fire vs odd fire deal. He basically said that the sbc rods can and will work and he has used them, but the rods have to be milled, which he can do for me for free. Any of you guys hear about this?

I still don't think im going to go with the olivers since I can't shell out the dough for the set that he has left.

Pink rods are just regular rods that have been shot peened, heat treated and ,magnafluxed. They were painted with a pink identification mark at the factory thats why they're called "pink" rods.

V8 rods won't work on a even fire 4.3.
Large journal V8s Have 2.10 rod journals.Even fire 4.3s have a 2.250 rod journals.

pink rods are old time stuff... kinda like me

they were good things to have in the old days, but back then there weren't as many choices on stuff as there are now. they are better than stock but not the quality of the new stuff

bow down and worship the technology of stuff like cnc machines and forging practices :D
