one word - beater.

get a beater, i dont think there are many sytys that i would drive 60+ miles to and from work everyday not be a little nervous about. gas isnt cheap so mileage is important. the mileage difference would be more than enough to cover the extra cost of some pos on your insurance policy.

like i said, my insurance was cut in half when i put dd as liability only and ty has full coverage. only pay $90 a month

Last time I filled up I went 397 miles on 15.5 gallons. My vacuum reading at 75mph level ground runs 22" Look over these test readings from my post and feel free to respond on that posting as I don't want to :hijack:.

OK, I'll start looking around for a $500. beater for my DD.

However, I am intrested in this new stuff. This $58 code and $59 code. A dollar saved here and there will later add up.

buy a crx, 45+mpg for under $2500. I drive 40miles each way, each day. Have fun.

check that, civic would be cheaper, find a brown four door no one wants.

And you can autocross it on the weekends! PERFECT!!!!

You guys are giving bad info here. I did an Autotrader look up on CRX and the cheapest one within 100 miles is $10,000. There aren't any $500. CRXs!!!! I can buy another Typhoon for that. No savings there.

You won't find a beater like that on Autotrader.

On the side of the road with a for sale sign is more likely.

edit: I looked within any distance of my zip and the highest I found was $5000. Are you sure you looked at CRX's?

Run over to Pasedena and take a cruise down spencer......it ain't nothing but lots full of beaters for about 2 miles. You should be able to find something in the neighborhood of 500 to 1500. Grant it.......you should plan on giving it a complete tuneup.....but I'm sure you could find something out there. Spend a Saturday out there........you'll find something.

Bill, I would really go with the beater shopping for gas mileage for this reason. I pick up my Syclone with 53,000 miles on it to use as my toy. Then my son wreck my other truck and I was force to use the Syclone for a daily driver for 2.5 years and now it has 94,000 on it.

Guys,

The boss (my wife) doesn’t want a car payment nor does she want another insurance payment much less something else taking drive way space. So the beater is out. When mom isn’t happy, no one is happy.

Sooooo, back to the taller tires.

Who do I have to badger to get the info on what to change on the box next to the ECM that accounts for different tire sizes? Someone mentioned that dip switches could be substituted for the wire jumpers to make it easer to change.

I almost sound like I know what I am doing. I’ve never done this but I’m willing to learn and share.

Questions:
Does anyone out there know the tallest tire size that can go on our trucks?

There is a blazer (and a cutlass) around here running 24" wheels. With your cladding on, you should be able to go to 22". I think a guy named "Sherlock" had 20" wheels on his Typhoon. BTW, the 24" wheels looked retarded to me and jacked the vehicles up about even height with my F250 FX4. The higher a plane flies in the atmosphere, the less resistence it encounters so maybe if you jack your Typhoon way up there, it WILL in fact increase your MPG .

By the way, I am not going to buy those big wheels. That would defeat my purpose of saving money on gas. I'm going to get taller tires. Put them on my wheels. Maybe buy some stock steel Blazer wheels from salvage and put some 75s on.

fwiw my dad has a 93 blazer 4wd 4.3. it had the factory option for larger tires. it got horrible gas mileage and he hated the fact that it was constantly unlocking and locking the converter, and shifting between 3rd and 4th gear. he put a shorter set of tires on the truck and guess what, no more shifting around, and MUCH better gas mileage :2cents:
