His goals are to fix at least one of his trucks so he can drive it instead of polishing it
Them's fightin' words!
Now I'm not going to clean up the frame, fenders or put any undercoat on just so I can be driving mine before you get yours done.
By the time you get those coilovers figured out I'll probably put 5k on my truck.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

Spent about 3 hours powdercoating this yesterday.
Masking, trimming, coating, masking, coating, sanding, & some light polishing.
I need to spend some more time polishing it, sanding the edges so it fits on top on the intake better & it still needs to be milled thinner so it's not so tall.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

Not much movement here other than remove the rear main cap & finding some small grooves in the crank. It is the only one that has any damage to it. I will have it polished & probably run a .001 or a std. & .001 to get the correct clearance.

I also decided that the interior of the block is to friggin' dirty. So I will do a complete teardown, have everything sanitized & re-assemble it.

Well...just like the title says; "Goodbye old & rusted."
I didn't want to go this far with it, but I guess it's a good thing that I did.

I have no idea what these markings are in the bore.
Also, see the red tint on the right in the middle of the bore? Rust. And a couple of scores that catch my fingernail. :squint:
Looks like it sat a long time before I bought it.

Too keep it running.
Honestly, I have no goal other than that. I've never been to the track with either truck.

The only time I've been to the track is with my old Cal-Look Bug. And the last time I took it to the track I blew up the transmission on one of the runs.

I'm looking at buying another Bug for my wife & my kids as the get closer to driving age. That thing was a blast. This one will be a sleeper though. ;) No fancy paint or wheels. Just a big motor & better brakes.

There was somebody on here with a couple of bugs. One stock looking and one that was pretty sweet.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

Like most companies, business is bad where I'm at. So we have to take time off. I opted to take every Monday of for the next 7 weeks. So no more excuses for not doing anything.

So today I started taking apart the front suspension. I used propane torch to remove the bushings from the upper control arm today. Tomorrow I'll get the lower bushings out & probably install the new bushings.
I'll be rebuilding the control arms with poly bushings & Power Performace ball joints. Adding LS1 front brakes with the Ace Haag adapters & knuckles. And installing a new pitman.
With it this far along, I'm thinking it's time for coilovers so I don't have to screw around with the torsions.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

Finally!!!
I've had a set of Pro-Gram main caps on order for 4 months. I finally went with Plan B/Vendor B and received the front & center mains today.
They are labled Howards as in Howards Cams, but they look exactly the same as Pro-Grams' with the exception of the oxide coating, like the rear main in the pic. I'm sure they are just re-branded Pro-Gram caps.

Now my block can finally go to the machine shop.

There is a board member that sells them. I can't remember who, but I'm sure someone else will chime in.
I did the powdercoating, though.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

I just read all 5 pages, it sucks that its been taking so long (i'm sure your feeling the pain more then me watching) but it looks good. Its a natural habit to always "dig deeper" when doing rebuilds. I can relate when i wanted to just reroute some things on my air management in the air ride of my sonoma, and i ended up replacing the whole air management system lol. Keep it up!

Nice parts! Did you get the Sy running yet?
I'm moving slowly with it. I finished sumping the tank a couple of weeks ago. And I just got the new sending unit for the tank today.
I took today off from work & had hoped to spend some time on it, but other things ate into the day & I didn't do a damn thing on it.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

I started on my airbox this week. 22 ga. sheetmetal for now.
So far, so good. My welding skills are getting a little better.

Re: Goodbye old & rusted...The Ty gets updated.

OK, so I got a bug up my butt about making an airbox.
So a couple of hours & a sheet of foamboard I came up with this partial mockup.
This side goes against the inner fender & I will make a ring to retain the filter against the airbox.

Here you can see the filter & where it sits. It will be completely sealed & when it's time to clean the filter, remove 2 bolts (same 2 bolts that hold overflow reservoir) & the entire box comes out.

Now after this mod I'll have to make another mod to re-relocate the PC680 battery somewhere else.
Found it lol Must not have had my glass's on :(
