Re: GP: traction bars

There seems to be some hype about how that lower traction plate bent..
I will install it the way I mentioned in the pictures on page one this week.

Re: GP: traction bars

Great product. That's a Caltrac bar, not a traction bar though.

That bent bottom plate is a problem. The fatigued metal will continue to deform under the pressure of the u-bolt. As it continues to bend, the u-bolts will get loose. Double nutting is an easy fix...assuming the nuts are the right length to perfectly fill the space. However, the right way to engineer this would be to discard the stock bottom plate and design a new plate that replaces it and includes the caltrac tabs.

This was mentioned on s10forum and here was the response

I agree! Its not Something that you will find at SEMA. That's not what I'm making these for, But if you strongly feel that way I would suggest Caltracs. I do not want the risk of the shock mount breaking off, that's why I'm not putting one on the plates I make. And the only ground clearance that will be gained by using the factory plate is the 3/16" thickness of my plate. These are going to stay the way they are. It's the only way I can make them bolt on for the price that low.

Re: GP: traction bars

If he's dead set on this design, it would be a good idea to beef the lower plate up to 5/16" and require double nutting in the instructions. That looks like maybe 3/16 he's using now.

Interested also. But also a question. Does the swap bar interfear with this?

Re: GP: traction bars

heres the best solution i have right now for fixing that bent plate.. its simple and cheap rather then having him build a whole new bracket.

This is WITHOUT the nuts between the two brackets

This is WITH the both set of nuts.. i feel its safer this way considering the upper bracket has its own nuts holding it in place torqued, then another set to just hold the trac/caltrack bar in place. all i did was add another washer underneith the original nuts, then the bracket, then another set of locking washers and nuts

i knows its not 100% perfect, but much better then before... ALSO the little tabs you see on the ends of the traction plate will be longer which means it should sit on the upper plate before the middle notch on the upper plate touches the lower plate

Caltracs is a brand name. And I can't go around saying I build Caltracs. I'm sure they would frown upon that. lol.

Anyways, the bottom plate IS and issue on Jesse's truck. It is only this way because he agreed to be my test dummy. He got the prototype, I guess you could call it. For anyone who orders these, they will have longer tabs that will rest on the factory leaf plate, and may still give a slight bend, but nothing that will cause the metal to fatigue and loosen up on the u-bolts. I do however, recommend that each nut and bolt associated with this kit be re checked after 500 or so miles. Just for your piece of mind.

I started off using 1/4" metal for that plate, but it was overkill for sure. 3/16 is perfect, I think.

I appreciate your input!

Re: GP: traction bars

Your sway bar is different than mine ( Belltech). I'll pass for now till you fix the bending of the lower plate. I would make it at least a 1/4 inch, actually I would maybe go with 3/8 plate and replace the factory plate and incorporate your plate into it.

Re: GP: traction bars

I talked to Branden this morning, we decided it would be better to have the first 5 made and have them sent out so the current buyers can also give there opinion on them before we make more orders. As long as there is no problems "which there shouldn't be", another group buy will be opened up when these are delivered.

To the guys that bought some kits already, I'll keep posted the progress on them and hopefully get Somme pics for you guys along the way :D
