Grand national, mustang, lightning

Syty Killer :(
Last night was a decent night out so i went for a drive. I see a grand national with the plates nastyv6. Gauges line his a pillar so i thought he would race for sure. we a in a 3 lane 30mph zone and i catch up and let out next to him. he gives a glance and speeds up, so i get next to him and let out again thinking he will get mad and find a light or line up or something. He keeps speeding up so i pass him, i look down and see 80mph, we are still in a 30 in town. Apparently he was already trying to race me. That thing was a turd. Asked some people about it later and they verified that its a turd. :D
I go down to the local hangout and a guy with a mustang that had wanted to race me was there. He now said he saw what i ran at the track and didnt want to race anymore. A buddy convinced him to race anyways just for fun. The mustang had just put on his new ET Streets and from what everyone said was running better than ever. We go out to an empty spot and i get ready and my drunk girlfriend counts, quietly and without any steady rhythm. the guy in the mustang said he only heard two and go. I heard one......two.............................three..go! I had a late launch and got a little sideways but caught up and passed by 2nd gear without locking the converter. He came back and passed in 4th gear though to win by a half fender. Asked him to go again and he said no cause i'd beat him.
Asked a lightning to race that use to be close to me before my free mods and before i knew how to boost launch and always said he would win if he had a better launch. he said no but he said he would race me tonight. I found out he is getting tires and a smaller pulley put on this morning. I'll race him anyways and see how it goes.

If you going to race your Sy regularly with boosted launches, you will break the propshaft, engine mount and transmission. I would do a Gilbert propshaft, Engine tie down (or wait and do solid motor mounts) and a transmission cooler. These are worthwhile investments and will save a lot of headaches later.

Re: Grand national, mustang, lightning

My propshaft boot has been torn for a while-I will get the gilbert one when I have some extra money. I have heard solid mounts were the way to go. Guess I'll pick those up too.
Thanks for the advice

Might want to be careful racing with the boot torn. Torn boot means grit and grime in there and grit and grime wont help matters at all, specially when launching.

Re: Grand national, mustang, lightning

If it does break, hopefully it does it when launching and not at 100mph :shocked!:
Will get the new one soon, it just has to make it through that race with the lightning tonight. If I hooked it would probably be gone already. Good thing my front tires are bald stockers

Re: Grand national, mustang, lightning

snapping the propshaft would be part of the worry, I would also concider what it would take out while it's swinging around under there without a safty loop besides you'll loose your race if it goes along with alot more money and downtime to repair.

Don't let these guys discourage you, sounds like you have a lot of opportunities out there :). Besides if that propshaft goes, you'll just end up with a beat up floor board at best or a hole busted in your transmission case and/or a wrecked truck at worst.

GN's are like syty's (we have the same motor after all  ), they can be way out of tune and be beaten by a civic. Parts will breat if you race, don't let these guys get you down about it though

LOL I guess you are referencing that Car and Driver video where the Editor sat there and said the syty's had the same motor as the GN/GNX. What a moron. Youd think someone in his position would have some knowledge.

That and every car show/street race scene/parts counter says the same thing. I found it fun to do the same. Walk up to a Ty and tell a buddy, "Hey, this is one of the GN powered Xtreme thingies" and watch the owners reaction. Priceless
