A couple of green questions:what is code $ 59, what is ostrich? i see them in a lot of signatures, what power levels and mods benefit from these tuning programs? What do you need to use them...
How does a 3 bar map work?(in layman's terms please) Just got the handling & brakes completed, ready to add vortec heads, meth kit & do the tune...
Anyone?

Re: green questions

http://www.code59.org

Its basically a binary that will run in our stock ECM and offer lots of nice features.

An Ostrich is a hardware device sold at http://www.moates.net that allows you to make real time changes to your binary. It replaces the stock PROM and allows you to update info on the fly.

A 2-bar MAP can only read up to 1 bar of boost(I think its 14.7 PSI) and 1 bar of vacuum. A three bar MAP can read 2 bars of boost(I think this is around 30 PSI) and one bar of vacuum.

If your running above 14.7 PSI and only have a 2-bar MAP then your ECM has no clue whats going on boost wise when you go above 14.7 PSI.

Re: green questions

ANY and EVERY build will benefit from a good tune, it's free horsepower. Aside from the Ostrich (emulator), and cable, you'll need a laptop (nearly any will do), and a wide band O2 sensor. If you have your truck running now, I'd get set up and comfortable tuning before adding any more variables to the equation (vortecs, meth...)
