All that shit is free. You might as well do it for the experience, and at least you KNOW that it ACTUALLY was done, instead of some monkey telling you it was. We'll walk you through everything.

Example: I bought my truck from a guy who said his mechanic had just put in new ATR plugs, that he had bought and supplied.(I have the reciepts he gave me)

When I got it home,it had 3 different kinds of plugs in it,and no ATRs.

I WISH I could go!!! If it weren't for those 1103 miles in between.

It's no where near that far to Columbia, look up jwaller (Waller Performance in the vendors section). That is if you decide not to tackle it yourself (I would).

The total quote came in at just over $1400, I'm getting a breakdown shortly. At this point, the truck will sit until I can get to it.

If paying $1400 for everything you listed, I'd have a breakdown shortly myself.

Let it sit, and like Jimmy said, know it's right. I feel your pain as far as getting it up on the stands, but do it a few times and it gets less painful. None of it is black magic (even tuning), and all the answers are here.

cap/rotor, wires, and plugs should be all under 100 bucks...200 i don't know what your buying unless they are some 100+msd wires. Get taylors for 33 or so.

I bought plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel and oil filter from Hood for 80.00 to my door, Took about 4 hours to do it all, but I also replaced all the plug wire holder with the later model Vortec ones , You need 18mm to remove the passenger wheel and 13mm to pull the wheel well , Drivers plugs can be done from the top. philips screw driver for the cap and rotor, 11/16 and 5/8 for the fuel filter , and a 5/8th socket for the plugs 2 10 inch extensions and a wobble for the passenger rear

If you buy the 24" 3/8 drive extension and the 5/8 Swivel socket from Sears you can change the plugs without removing the wheel well. and be done in 20 min for both sides.

Yeah, what he said:

You have pretty big kahunas to let a shop thats not familiar with SyTy to tackle some of those things.
plugs, timing and vac lines especially.

Funny that so many people say that. I am always told on the board to do it myself, yet I am FAR from a mechanic. I just read online how to check timing and am still a bit confused. Took two friends to come over and show me then explain why i need a new balancer. Most everything I read about on here Im guessing at when I do it on my Ty. I cross my fingers everytime I turn the key. A mechanic that knows what they are doing might ruin my motor, so its always better to do it myself and guess cause I didnt even know what a timing gun was or how it worked. I had to read the directions. If I wreck it im screwed, but if a reputable shop ruins it, they buy me a new one! hehe

Ok back to installing my balancer. hehe

Re: Guess my mechanics bill for a Syclone Tune Up?

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up changing the prop shaft today. Installed the one from George Blake, very nice vendor and nice product! The install was not too bad except for the trip to the store to pick up the reverse torx sockets. Took a while of fiddling with it but it was pretty straight forward. While it's up I'm going to try to knock out as much as I can tomorrow .

Anything special I need to know before doing the front pads & rotors (other than opening the bleeder screws)? I imagine it's going to take a breaker bar or something similar that I don't have in the garage (yet...).

Tomorrow, I'm going to try to finish the oil change, coolant change, transmission and differential fluid changes.

If you still have ABS do NOT let any fluid backup into the unit. Open the bleeders like you said. Some may disagree but I put a tiny bit of neverseize on the mounting pins when I reassemble the calipers.

If you do have ABS might be a good time to delete it and change the fluid if yur so inclined.

Re: Guess my mechanics bill for a Syclone Tune Up?

Just a quick update...

I installed the George Blake Propshaft 2 weeks ago. I finally finished the front brake repair that included pads, rotors, calipers, lines, flushing and new DOT4 fluid (bled the drums also). Gotta love all those brake parts costing less than $100, LOL. Gotta hate just planning to change pads and finding out I need new rotors, then finding out I need new calipers, then new lines and finally a busted banjo bolt. Each of those was a trip to the store causing my 4 hour brake job to take over 2 weeks.

Took it out for a test drive and it drives so much better. The prop shaft and a stuck piston the passenger caliper were causing me all sorts of steering and breaking problems. It drives like a normal truck now!

Still have to do the remaining fluids next weekend but I am happy with the progress so far.

After getting the parts installed (and everything worked without an issue the first time!)... I decided to wash the Sy and add 50 hp by installing the "Motorsports" sticker under the "GMC Truck" emblem on the tailgate.
