Taking the LS1 PCM in another direction...1992 GMC Typhoon! (This one took a few days to build.)

  • 12200411 PCM (loaded with 2002 S-10 4.3L calibration)
  • 4L60E
  • Waste Gate Solenoid and Charge Air Cooler Pump control must be independent of PCM

Omg I am in love with this setup!!! Ls1 com means we could go obd2 and run hp tuners!!

I had thought about this at one time, as I already have Hptuners and lots of people locally are familiar with tuning these pcms. I have since gone code59 and like many of the features it has. I figured since SyTy's tend to multiply, I might as well learn how to tune them. Regardless, the LS1 pcm would be a pretty cool upgrade.

Been there done that. -up and running on the 411PCM, but still waiting to dial in the tune.

These guys (http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonnection/default.aspx) were contacted about making more of those harnesses, but they said they really rather deal with v8 stuff.

If there are enough inquiries/group buy they may make more??

I used a '02 S10 harness and made my own fuel injection harness -plus you have to mod a few other things.

I see advantages to all systems, aftermarket included.

If it were me I would take a broken ECM apart for the connectors and make a pigtail harness to 411 pcm, should have 90% of sensors you would need/want without cutting up stock harness at all.

Wouldn't be all that hard to do, and then you could swap between systems in minutes to compare, if you had issues, etc.

That would be a good upgrade for me aswell since there's a lot of speed shops over here that use hp tuners to program anything with a obd2 port

Does hptuners have custom 2/3bar OSs for the 4.3s? I wonder if you can do a segment swap and control a 4l80e with too.

With the option of code59 being to readily available, what would be the benifit of a 0411 PCM? Hptuners is expensive and you would need 2 credits to unlock the PCM, another 2 credits to license a 4.3 OS if you don't have a PCM out of a 4.3, and another 2 credits to get a custom OS. At $50 a credit, that could get expensive. And after that you would still need to control your boost somehow.

Re: Has anyone made this computer change?

I've run both systems (Pre 411 ECM) our 98 Jimmy. and Code59.
OBD2 is much easier to work with even with out any real MAP control. The MAF works fine up to a point.
THe 411 would allow you do do a SD tune and elimaate the MAF.
You will need a dual sync dizzy to pulse the crank sensor.

I'd really like to see a DIS system used with 411pcm then it would really be a big benifit.

The OBD2 driveability is much better than code59 with less work. For me after working with both systems.

I run a FAST XFI on ours and the driveability is good with little effort. IDK.. everyone has their own way.

Comes down to cost and how involved you want to get with programming.

BTW... It's only 2credits to unlock any GM ECM from HPTuners 99.00 total.

it's two credits to unlock a gen3 PCM but another two to get a custom os for sd. Do they have a custom 3bar OS for the 4.3 OS?

Doug (Leadfoot) is using EFI Live and it only costs 1 credit ($100) including the COS for the 3 bar
Three things that I don't think were mentioned, but none of them are major issues.
One you need to run the later 96 and newer V6 distributer, there is some nice aftermarket ones with the metal housings for under $100, they also route the wires to the correct side of the motor.
You also need to supply a crank signal, this is easily done using the reluctor and sensor from a 96 and newer 4.3 along with the cover from a 96 and newer 5.7 vortec. You need to machine a small amout off the vback of a balancer stub to make up for the thickness of the reluctor

Last you should also use the newer flat response knock sensors from the 2001 / 2002 4.3's, to install them you just need to tap threads for the bolt that attaches it, in a plug that screws in where the old knock sensor screwed in

One other issue is you should convert your OS to use non-dual bank fueling, since the O2 sensor can not be installed in Sy /Ty manifolds in a manner that would allow them to only see one bank of the motor. This can easily be accomplished in TunerCat, since TC (John) added this feature to the VDF's for a lot of the OS's, including the one for the 2001 / 2002 4.3's

I'm sure Doug would have no issues, letting somebody have a copy of his start tune(It in EFI format), he hasn't got around to tuning it under boost yet, (partially my fault). It is set up for non-dual bank fueling and a 3 bar, with the non-dual bank fueling you still need to run both O2 sensors, since it averages the readings between them

No to knock HPT, since all tuning packages have their place, but I feel EFI is a much better solution here, since they also support The Moates Roadruuner PCM, which give you true real time tuning, plus their V2 cable offers black box logging without a laptop, using an SD card to store the files and flashing right from the cable without carring your laptop along

Re: Has anyone made this computer change?

It's too bad this system couldn't be configured in some manner to run coil on plug ignition.
