Header issues...

Been a bit since I have even logged in. She has been doing ok minus the usual leaks...

Anyways I was going through making sure things were good and think I have a bit of a header issue. I had surgery on my elbow a month ago and do not have the dexterity to pull off things and really get in there and look at it. I was browsing and came across several posts but nothing that led me to find somewhere to get headers or the crossover pipe.

I dont have the 1800 for some of the nice set ups and it wouldnt be worth it since it is a stock engine right now. Trying to sell items off my S10 to pay for items on the Tybrid, yeah thats not going well...

Anyways... I saw some doorman headers that look like OEM and until I get money to rebuild it entirely that is my price range. However for the life of me I can NOT find the cross over pipe. I am not a welder and to get the front exposed for a custom pipe is not an option now. It might just be a gasket from the headers to the crossover but once it comes apart something is going to crumble to a point where a gasket wont solve it. This was a swap as is from the rotten Typh to my S10 Frame and things were 'ok' then... That was maybe 4 years ago?

Ok so any help on a cheap fix now until I get the money to do it fully would be awesome. I could take a bit out and get in there with that exhaust wrap patch crap and get me till the spring... maybe...

Thanks

Re: Header issues...

If they are cracked just take them off... drill a hole at each end of the crack and weld it up. If done it to syty manifolds, turbo buick, vr4.... never had a problem

Re: Header issues...

No way is an exhaust patch going to seal the exhaust manifolds. The manifold pressure of the stock stock turbo at full boost is probably 35-40psi.

Re: Header issues...

Never thought of the pressure there... I used the wrap stuff on the tail pipe of my VW and got another 6 months until it finally went but that is far from the turbo and significantly less pressure. What about the cross pipe? I really think things are going to have to be replaced... They are definitely crispy down there so like I said I think things are going to get worse if I take anything off. New England is not nice to vehicles here and with the amount of rot the original body had kinda surprised I havent had more issues.

Re: Header issues...

I saw them listed in autozone, the picture looks like the stockers. Guess you would actually have to see them in person.

the manfolds were not cast by GM, they were a PAS casting. Trust me, nobody is re-popping PAS manifolds. You can try buying them, but i bet they are for an N/A 4.3

You're probably right, just looked to good to be true, just didn't know if anyone had actually seen them.

Re: Header issues...

Yeah I saw the ones listed once they were both gone... figures...

I guess what autozone is listing is for the driver side... it says right but Im guessing you put them on going the other way so they would technically fit but yeah not meant for the turbo set up. My dad and I put headers on his cobra kit car and had to put them going the opposite direction, which you normally dont think of. They do fit both directions. I saw a picture someone posted of the entire exhaust manifold from the syty... yeah way different. The listing is for the 4.3 but that doesn't mean for the turbo...
