Re: headers

If you want a 5" tip, I can have my coffee can chrome plated and I will sell it to you. Do you want Folgers or Gevalia French Roast?... Rice does not belong on these vehicles....... EVER!!!!!!

Been talked about before, matter of fact about a month ago or less I made a thread asking about diy headers. I was informed that the price of all the parts already made up, all you had to do was weld wouldnt really be that much less then buying then already done.

a pair of these cost $200 in materials and machine shop time.
plus about 5 hrs of my time so far.....

i am a die hard domestic guy and always will be......but i do like alot of japanese styling and concepts. i would like to run full three inch exaust and i want to run a HKS or Greddy muffler with a 5" tip. i know u guys might think thats ricey but it has its performance gains and i no it wont sound like a bumble bee. it should sound more along the lines of a supra which i love the sound of!!

In terms of noise turbo's aren't like a N/A V8 when you add headers.

It will never sound like a Supra. FIrst a Supra is straight 6. Firing order, the exhaust port layout and flow play a big roll in how an engine sounds. That is why 302/351W Fords don't sound like 305/327/350 Chevys...

Re: headers

headers do sound better and make a ton more power when tuned. i would even say a good 30rwhp over manifolds with any turbo larger then a 20g. spend the money and get them.

Re: headers

well for now im all stock. to my understanding any boosted car will see much improvement with a good exaust and intake. and turbo cars really see gains from exaust. am i right??

Re: headers

I don't even own one of these trucks but, I cannot see how a 5" diameter exhaust tip would look good.

Re: headers

there seems to be a lot of comments that headers sound better...
if you only change from exhaust manifolds to tubular headers... all else
remaining the same... the only sound difference is whatever migrates
through the walls of the tubing. On my homemade manifolds the material
is almost as thick as the stockers, through passages, and seem just as
quiet.

Re: headers

dump tube dump tube dumb boob or I mean tube

you'll hear your desired loud exhaust and the turbo whistles like a never before.

ok....dont make fun of me for asking....but what is a dump tube, how does it work, what else do i need to add one to my stock setup??

just an opening at the end of your downpipe so you bypass the cat and muffler if you have one. most aftermarket downpipes have them.

I don't know how to make the image any bigger but its the "cut out" on the left hand side of the far right pipe.

Re: headers

OK.....this is the exact mufler that i am planning on putting on my typhoon. Mine will sound similar to the 350Z but alot deeper (i know this because a kid around town has one on his 4.3 S-Dime).

as far as the dump tube goes.....i dont understand why to even run exaust if i have one. If there is a dump tube right after the turbo then no exaust will even go threw the exaust.

You can open or close the dump tube, it doesn't have to be open all the time. Only when you want it open.. Did you even look at the link I posted?

I'll briefly explain better, a dump tube is a small section of pipe which is in the shape of a "Y" that you have any muffler shop install either before or after your cat to increase turbo spool noise (whisling sound), gain quicker spool up, some have even gained a pound or two of boost in the quarter due to no restrictions and in your case save you weight when compared to installing a huge diameter exhaust system or a dual setup.

Are those schedule 40 weld Els that you are using? If so I am going to be doing the same thing in the near future..
