Help for a noob

im have been wanting to own a RWD car for some time. due to being sick of seeing f-bodys and fox bodys everywhere i would love to have a beretta RWD. now im deciding on a couple of things and cost VS performance is whats going to steer all my decisions.

right now im thinking of keeping my 03' 3400 FWD engine and just mounting it like a RWD and using an f-body V6 trans and seting up a 4 link rear suspension. okay yeah whatever, but since there is nothing really out there for this 3400 im thinking 350-400whp MAX from this engine. with out too much dreaming. 350s are very possibel the way it is now.

my friend suggesed 4.3L maybe able to get more HP. since the RWD set up will rob some WHP, im asking for people the know their 4.3 stuff. how much money would it take to build the engine (4.3L) to get around 400WHP with decent TQ ? oh and it will be turbo charged.. ill prolly use the syty bin as well.

again this is somthing i want to do and im really trying to see what would be the best route. keeping the 3400 or going to something with more aftermarket? or maybe it doesnt?
any problems with e 4.3L???

any help would be great!

Dont waste your money on a 4.3 swap . Its about the most expensive for least hp motor there is .Do sbc or ls1 if your smart .

yeah.. okay that helps alot. someone said ohhh syty engine.. then i looked prices... ohh boy LOL. then i thought well how is the 4.3L?? i really cant fit a V8 in this engine bay, so thats out.. its too small of a bay, but i would love the V8 sound. i would have to do alot of cutting.

i think i may just keep the 3400 first and use a beretta shell i have in the garage to practice on what kind of rear suspension setup i want to do. right now my 3400 is make decent power. due to no traction i put a 14.0@109mph.i could use drag radials or slicks, but i want a car that runs on the street what it can at the track. but RWD is one thing i think will help with tration alot and its alot better than FWD all around.

talk to vortec fearo he has a 4.3 in his fearo.

ill do that..thanks

My friend just bought one of those(93' camaro Z-28) for 6k with 90000 miles on it. That sucker runs. It has almost every bolt on part you can buy, and it will allmost everything in it's path. Killed my friends 94' vette, kept up with a 98' or up trans am WS6, and I have not raced him yet  . Expecting him to catch up around 65 on me, but that is just a guess.

Re: Help for a noob

It seems like it would be a lot of money to convert it to RWD, especially for just a Beretta. (Not insulting you choice of vehicle) If your hitting 109 mph with a 3.4L motor and syty turbo your down pretty well hp output wise. All the RWD guy while they may have better traction still run into traction problems on street tires when they get close to the 12's. I would keep it as fun driver/toy and start a new project, if you in for a challenge tackle a SyTy.

You can turbo the 3.4... and make waaaay more power than your drivetrain can handle.
Like, 700 HP +.

There have been many turbo 3.1/3.4 build-ups... google for 'em.

None of what you list above will be cheap, or easy, just so you realize.

RWD will not rob any more HP than FWD. You will be able to make it hook better.
And, you're talking huge amounts of fabrication work to make that happen. And that's
before you start talking about the wiring, ECM, etc work.

Find an old 60's vega, and plant the turbo 3.4 in there. Or, better yet, a Chevette. Really scare the crap out of some big-block cars. :)

wiring is not a probelm i will just have to reroute some wires cause i plan on using the same engine. setting up a RWD is very simple. its just your measurements have to be right on. prolly 700-1000 bucks for a 4link and a used rear end with a shorted driveshaft.
i have run into problems with possible transmissions now. LOL starter in the wrong side... i guess there are T56 adapters for the 60 degreeV6 bellhousing.. ohhhh

chevette would be very cool LOL..

given my 3400 has bone stock internals i can still get more power out of this.

but ideas are more than welcome.... :)
