Help! Lack of power.

So I took my Syclone out for a drive today and noticed that it was running a little sluggish. Idled fine, but just didn't have any power when I hit the gas. Also noticed that when I let off the gas, there was no noise from the boost going through the waste gate. When I floored it, the boost gauge only got up to zero.

As the drive progressed I noticed it seemed to get worse, eventually getting so bad that I could barely get the truck up to 25 mph when flooring it. The engine would stutter and stumble as well. With the truck in my garage I tried revving the motor and it would get up to about 4000 rpm and then stumble and drop to about 3000 rpm.

Fuel pressure reads about 40 at idle, and 46 when I rev it. Oil pressure is about 45 or so when idling. What do you guys think it is?

Re: Help! Lack of power.

Less than 3000 miles ago I changed the distributor, cap, rotor, coil, wires, plugs, idle air control valve, egr, fuel pressure regulator, and intercooler pump. Also replaced all the vacuum lines with silicone lines.

Do you have the stock plastic air filter cross over tube? Check that a chunk has not broken off and taken out the turbo

There will be lots of guesses until we have scan data. You didn't describe how it idles. If it is idling fine and you don't have datamaster or such (get it). If you don't have it, put a vacuum gauge on the engine and tell us what you see at idle and under load. Double check vacuum line to the MAP sensor.

If it isn't a plugged cat, timing hasn't backed way off, an intake restriction or an ignition module, then most likely it is one of the critical inputs (MAP or RPM), since FP seems about right.

Re: Help! Lack of power.

It idles fine.

I don't have the stock air filter crossover tube.

I'll try and get some data scan later today, have to get my laptop back from a friend who is borrowing it.

Re: Help! Lack of power.

Sorry I forgot to mention in my original post, I have a boost gauge and when I rev the motor, it doesn't go past 0. At idle it is at -15.

First off check if your exhaust has any eccessive black smoke
when your driving and on w.o.t this will give you an idea if your
turbo is going bad as you are not making any boost pressure also
check turbo inlet and impeller if they are damage !!

What does it read at idle?

EDIT: Dammit, I can't read. Mine reads about -22 at idle.

First of DONT go WOT, i would check the turbo impeller wheel before that. Dont need sending any more metal into the engine if you can avoid it.

Re: Help! Lack of power.

I have seen a wrong spark plug firing order cause no power/no boost and it still seemed ti idle fine. So check that if you recently changed the wires.

Re: Help! Lack of power.

Started it up this morning and now it runs rough at idle too. When I rev the motor the fuel pressure gauge rises to 46 and stays steady, even while the motor stutters. Seems to be running worse today than yesterday. Didn't have a chance to run datamaster in it before leaving for work, but it smelled really rich after I shut off the motor.

Re: Help! Lack of power.

still driving it to work like a boss, I like that.

I would check your vacuum line going to your map sensor first. Maybe when its idling take off your oil fill caps for kicks and see if any air blows out. Cats can clog pretty fast, I still stand by that idea.

I wouldn't think his plug wires would suddenly cross when driving, although they could be melting against something...

taking the coupler off of the front of the turbo wouldn't be a bad idea. Do that when the engines off and grab the end of the turbo shaft, wiggle it around a little. If it wiggles into the wall of the turbo, or has chunks taken out of it, that could be an issue.

My vote bad cat, or bad plug wire somewhere?!

Re: Help! Lack of power.

Actually I just started it up to check it out this morning before work, drove my company car to work.

Just checked the flex hoses and the turbo and all seems fine. No chunks missing from the impeller and no play in the shaft. Ran datamaster on it and here's the data at idle and at about 2000 rpms. I'm not good at analyzing this data, so maybe one of the resident geniuses here could help me out. Is the Turbo WGDC the wastegate? And is it supposed to be at 100?

Thanks!
