Re: help me decide on a TY

Your initial post indicated "matching numbers".
Dave

Well, I'm sorry to admit that I didn't check...I took the word of the seller...I have a trip planned for Wednesday and was going to see about getting it on a lift for a better look underneath and getting it hooked up to a datamaster.
I was going to check all the numbers I could find then.

The first look was mechanical and structural...the second check is going to be the "fine tooth comb."

so what the report is basically saying...

No issues to report and if the engine or trans were swapped, it wasn't done at the dealership..

And it probably had 2 owners. 1 in Illinois, one in Texas...perhaps more than 2.

...i think

Re: help me decide on a TY

I hear the warnings, but it is very difficult to let go of it when I'm so close! The rarity of these trucks, combined with my long desire to own one, combined with the "thumbs up approval" from my wife, and the fact that I have the money to invest in one and make it "right" makes it VERY hard to pass on it!

Re: help me decide on a TY

I for one think Dave is making a lot of sense here. I don't know as much as a lot of members here, but I do know good information/advice when I see it. IMO you would be very wise to take Dave's information into consideration. From reading your posts it seems you are eager to buy one in a hurry, I had the same problem. I had been searching for one for over a year when a local Syclone came up for sale. It showed 60,xxx miles, but from working in a body shop and knowing cars nothing jived about the odometer reading. I waited another year after looking at this one before I finally made the plunge and bought one. I know where you are at, I've been there. You want one, and this one is close, just because it is close does not mean this is the one for you. As Dave and others have mentioned, this is a buyers market right now. Many nice trucks are selling way to cheap IMO, but this is a good thing for you and other potential buyers. You can score a nice truck for what he is wanting for that one. With what you are willing to spend: go get a nice truck. Preferably one a board member knows something about, and leave this over priced piece of shit with the guy that has it, which at his current asking price is probably where it will stay for a looooong time. Anyway I hope you are happy with the truck you purchase amd score a sweet deal. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Okay....I'll do the right thing and wait it out....
I'll call and negotiate with the guy and see if he will take it down to 8K. If I can work that out, do you guys think it is fair?
not a penny more than 8,000.00?

Re: help me decide on a TY

Jimmy, Josh Young, Dave P....X2 on their opinions, and they really do know what they are talking about.

I know for a fact this truck has been up for sale for a looonnnggg time. In addition, It's previous Illinois location is a small farm town nearby, I've never heard of or seen this truck while it was here, trust me I'd found out from someone sooner or later.. Couldn't have been here for too long then, and I can tell you that's where the rust came from. Title problems in Illinois, means no registration to legally drive. it was never seen on the roads here, was it broke down in the garage?

This truck (in my location) would appraise out for the asking price, just because of it's original preservation condition, but as stated w/ the market, no way. If you buy this for that price, you'll never get your money back out of it if you mod it and DD. My field of knowledge is great in the "original truck" area. IMO, This truck is not suited for your plans. Just as Dave stated these current unmolested trucks are very scarce, and IMO they need to be left alone for the collector types. Even if you keep the parts, it's only original once, and you'll still have wear and tear, rock chips, rust getting worse from rain, etc, etc. Don't forget the mileage gets racked up a lot quicker. Collectors don't like that all, which IMO is the only "buyer" for this truck. Anyone else wanting to buy it to drive is going to pass for a cheaper one. Only way THIS truck could be an investment, is if you drive it a few times a year, and keep it untouched. And that's not in your plans.
Good news is there are plenty of trucks out there that DO fit your plans.

We've all been there, I myself have passed up some Syclones and Typhoons, and was glad I did because I found much better trucks that suited my goals. And with the help we the members are offering, you'll find the perfect truck for your goals. Your in good hands here at this forum, as everyone has certain areas of expertise on these trucks.
