Ok guys, since I'm redoing rear suspension soon and going with wider rear wheels. I figure it is time to decide for certain what wheels I want on this truck.....Wheels on it now are Boyd coddington smoothies. They are 17X 8's. If I keep Boyd's I am going to upgrade to 18's because 17's look to small to me and it bothers me quite alot. Basically specs on wheels will be 18x7 or 8 in the front and 18x12 in the rear. Just to note...I took the liberty of raising the wheels abit in the side shot pics without the boyd wheels to see what it would look like lowered 1 more inch.

Wheels on it now:

IMO Boyd Smoothies have been done and you want something new and cutting edge. I don't like Boze wheels only my personal opinion, had an issue with them a long, long time ago and unfortunatly I hold grudges. I've never put on a set of CCW's but have seen them on vehicals and I do like them, for me the thinner the spoke the better, I like seeing brakes and brake kits, I voted for #4

Yea, I'm leaning towards the CCW SP500's too as of now. Only problem is that they skinniest width that they are available in is a 8.5 inch. The 8 inch I have now are freaking close to the tie rods....so 8.5 I'm afraid would stick out of the wheel well too much. But I'm not 100% positive...gonna take measurments tomorrow to find out for sure. Anyways, thanks for the vote and thanks everyone else who voted so far

I think I had 18X8.5's on my Cameo and they didn't touch the tie rods or stick out of the fender, I can't remember the offset or backspace to give you any idea though. Now that I think about it I had more then enough clearance, I'll see if I can dig up anything tomorrow that would have the offset or backspace on it, they were Centerline Galaxies if you're able to find the specs on those.

EDIT: I was wrong I found the Centerlines at their website and I guess they only come 8" or 9.5"

I would've put money on the fact that they were 8.5" though

Well that is alright, after doing some measuring today, I'm pretty much positive I can fit an 8.5 inch on there without the wheels sticking out too far.

Are you still going to do the S & W backhalf? If you are and you don't plan on running wide tires, you need to tell them how wide you plan on running so they can make the pumpkin and axles longer. Otherwise, it comes ready for 18" wide Mickey Thompsons, lol

Yea, I'm gonna order it in a couple months or so. I'm gonna be running pretty wide tires on the back but not 18's. The tires I plan on running will be 13.2 inches wide. But I'm also not sure if I'm going to buy the rear diff they offer either. I really want a FAB9 but I dunno if I will be able to afford it. We'll see. I still have a couple more months to save money. A higher stall converter is of higher priority to me than getting a FAB9 as opposed a normal 9 inch housing though So I'm sure I'll just end up going with a normal narrowed 9 inch housing.

Thanks for the compliments and votes guys.

Yeah, make sure that you tell them that, or else you'll be stuck in my situation... I'm looking about about $4800 dollars worth of wheels and tires from Mickey Thompson right now, unless I can find wide enough wheels somewhere else.

Yes, sir, it's been sitting in the garage since... November? I'm looking for a competent shop to weld the new frame on right now. Then I'll start stripping the truck down. I haven't decided on if I want to run a fuel cell or not though.

I can give you a total cost on everything I've bought from them if you want.

Re: Help me decide wheels on my GT (POLL)

Oh that's cool. How does the frame/suspension set-up look? I talked to another guy who bought the 4-link backhalf and was pleased with it. Did you go with the 4-link or the ladder bar set-up? I'll probably start ordering stuff for the rear end within the next month or so although I won't be doing this until sometime around the end of May. My plan is to get all the parts together pretty soon so when the time comes it will only take a few weeks to do the rear end swap.

Oh, it all looks amazing, IMO. There's one little ding on the end of the frame where the shippers F'd something up, but it's not something that can't be fixed with a small propane torch and a hammer. Everything's Jig welded and the frame's light enough that two people can toss it up and down, lol *don't ask*

I went with the four link since I'll just be racing in a straight line, and everything there looks good too. I, of course, got carried away and had to buy the best of everything, but it was well worth the money, and even if you just buy the frame/suspension/pumpkin, I think you'll be happy too.

Ahhhh so you bought the nice rod ends and QA1 coil overs?? I'd like to buy that stuff but I just can't afford it. Plus the lower shock mounts are adjustable so I'll be able to sit the rear end where I want it without the QA1's.

Nice to see you were pleased with it. How bad was the shipping for it?? not too bad I hope.

Yes, I bought the doulbe adjustable coilovers. As a matter of fact I just recieved all of my front suspension/coilovers the other day

Hehe... depends on just how you define "bad". Since we both live in the west, shipping gets a little pricy. I paid somewhere between 300-350 I think, but that was two+ palettes and that was delivered to any business. To a home address, its another Benjamin. Steve George is my representative, and since I was buying so much stuff, he gave me a discount on the goods too, so I'd recommend him.

Sorry I forgot to get back to you on this. I ran two sets of tires, the wheels when I got them were used and they came with 225/40R-18 and when those wore out I went with a 245/35R-18. Both if I remember correctly rubbed a little on the back inside fender wells because of the amount of caster the truck had. If it was raised up a little it probably would have been fine.

It was lowered, if I remember right 5" in the front with 2" Bell Tech drop spindles and 3" springs, and about 6" or more in the back with 3" Bell tech drop springs and and 3" blocks with a 1" steel plate under the blocks. I just wanted the truck very very low to look cool, I wasn't worried about performance at the time. I had to build a custom C-notch in the rear to accomidate the travel. I didn't ride good, but it sure looked badass being only a 1" or 2" off the ground
