I finally have my engine built and ready to be installed  . It has been apart for 2 years and I just want to get it running again so I can enjoy it. 2 of my rods were bent because of a broken vacuum line on the wastegate solenoid.

I had the motor built with Eagle rods, Wiseco pistons and everything else is stock. I'm upgrading to a Walbro fuel pump, AFPR, FP gauge and Boost gauge.

I have three options. I was planning on taking it to Lee Howie in Columbus to re-install the engine and get it running again. I have only heard great stuff about Lee's work. It is about a 3.5 hour drive for me and I would have to pay to get it trailered there and be the most hassle. Then after I talked to Lee, I heard back from 2 local guys. One is GN mechanic that has worked on a few syty and he is also willing to install the engine. Not sure of the price. Probably in the middle of the 2 other estimates. I have a friend that works at a Procare and has offered to pick up the truck and all the parts and install it at his house for $550. I figure this is at least $1000 savings to me over taking it to Columbus. He hasn't worked on Typhoon specifically but is a competant mechanic.

Is it just as easy as bolting everything back together and it running properly, if it ran good before I bent the rods, or are there things that need to be done that only somebody familar with sytys would know. I would rather spend the extra money to have it done right and not pay for it a second time. I just want to show off with it since nobody believes how fast it is  . Any opinion would be appreciated.

Yourself. Cheaper (if you have a lift, if not you can rent 'em) and at least you know it was done right. I'm sure there is somebody close that can help you.

Yeah, why isn't "Youself" an option in the poll?

Who wants to pay for something you can do free?

I say do it yourself.

Hey, bring your truck and engine + 1 case of beer, then we can install it and take it to the 1/8th mile track about 1 mile away and BREAK it in.... No shit, if you can round up some good mech buds and install it yourself, you would be better off, specially if these shops don't know shit about a sy/ty... Don't forget to flush the oil cooler out or even have a radiator shop change it out with a new one, cause if a prior engine grenaded, it has left all kinds of metalic shit inside.... leave the thermostat and housing off while filling the new engine with water/antifreeze, and then install them after the engine has been filled with coolant, so that the air is not trapped inside. Good luck and come south for the winter.....

everybody here knows i didnt plan on doing it myself, but i have now.

if you built it yourself you might as well install it to.

with all the stuff i did while installing it i bet i saved a few thousand bucks.

Not to mention i am now totally independant of needing any other shop to fix anything in the future on this truck cuz now i have done it all. (except the tranny that i expect to blow up from all this new power) :D

Thanks for you opinions.

I haven't really thought about doing it myself because I'm not that confident in my skills to install everything again and make it run properly. It's a lot easier to take stuff apart :D . I'm to the point that I just want it to be running so I can enjoy it. It would be done A LOT sooner if I pay somebody. It has been apart for over 2 years.

One of my friend's built the engine for me, but hopefully someday I can build one.

How much work is involved in-between everything being bolted together and start up?

If you didnt build it, it sounds to me from what you are saying that you should have someone tear it down, double check what your buddy did, and then reassemble and install it. Have someone with syty experience do it for you and expect to pay ....

I already posted that I'd help. But I'm not going to install someone else's motor for them. I've helped like that in the past and I have many regret's from it.

I guess I'm the best one to respond...

FUCKING DO IT YOURSELF PANZY! Shit...if I can do it, a trained gimp could do it

No seriously...When I owned my Ty...I was the luckiest SyTy owner of all time...I beat the living shit out of that truck and nothing went seriously wrong...when I bought the Sy...my Karma changed. Engine blew and I've been without since august. Of course I got back from Kosovo in late Dec and the engine only came in in early Mar. But all said and done...I'll be putting the new engine into hte bay on monday with an all said and done time of 4days so far of work and an estimated 6 total for a newbie. Now, of course I am doing mine at a military auto craft show with ASE cert mechanics to assist...but the fun is all in doing yourself...I think.
