Re: help! no boost. *FIXED*

You have to be careful not to over boost with out a cat on a 2bar map because when the boost suddenly spikes it could go 16.5psi (about 1 or 2 more psi than max) and the 2bar map can only handle 15psi. So it can put enough fuel in and it runs lean. Which could lead to kaboom! there is a bunch of threads about this when talking about exhaust. If this is not right correct me please.

there was no check engine light on and no codes so i would have never known. kind of wierd i think. Now that is runs good I can get a baseline 1/4 time and start modding. Not only did i kix the truck, i got my new wheels today. What I good day. except that im in class right now and i just failed a quiz.

Well i am so stoked right now. :turbo: I haver replaced abunch of vac lines, the turbo to ic hose, the ic to throttle body hose, plugs, wires, and cap/rotor but nothing helped the boost problem. All that stuff needed to be replaced though. Finally I was so pissed that i "ripped", metaphorically speaking, the exhaust off including the cat. Well that was the problem. The cat was clogged. The truck is running better than ever right now. I know I have to be careful not to over boost. But I am so excited right now. Thought I would share. Also my tranny is shifting better than ever to. It wouldnt shift a WOT when I lost all my boost but now I think it will. I just afraid to go WOT with a 2bar and no cat. Anyone know if i can just run a muffle w/o a cat and not have to worry about overboost?

I am running without a cat but with a muffler. My SY is not stock though. I still have my cat if you are interested make me an offer.

I think mine is a high flow cat. It is stamped AC Made in the USA whatever that means? I took a look at it and it looks like it may be gutted, I am not sure? If you still want it let me know. Thanks.

damn totally forgot to mention the cat....... if you searched the forum though it would have for sure shown up because it's a common issue with a truck that's running too rich.

the stock turbo is pron to overboost with any modifications to the factory exhuast because the wastegate on the stock turbo is too small and cannot handle the increased flow of an opened up exhuast... some trucks get away with just a muffler or just a cat, some can't but I would try it out and see carefully... if you are over boosting simply unplug the boost solenoid at the turbo and you should only be able to make base boost which is 8lbs I believe to be safe. Could also tighten the wastegate adjustment rod all the way up and see if it helps prevent overboost

I am going to so a muffler only to a turn down before the axle. I think I should be ok with that be I will be careful until I can get a 3bar map and learn how to tune my truck myself. This tuning stuff is so confusing though. I wont put another cat on until I need to pass dumb ca smog in 2 years. I am going to cut my old one apart and weld the cat body to the new exhaust so the police think I have a cat if I get pulled over.

Don't know where your located but in Cali there's allot of syty members.. maybe you could hook up with a local sytyer that knows how to tune etc and you'd be good to go
