Help with front diff needle bearing removal

any idea on how to remove bearing? under vehicle right now and i am stumped. do i need to use a puller? if so which one? why is that 10mm bolt there? does it have anything at all to do with that bearing?
had a bad c clip on the output shaft so i just now replaced it but there is a little nit of play when i reinstall the output shaft.

had a scraping noise from driver side axle area. also a small leak from diff/output shaft. replaced seal and drove for less than a day. checked for new leaks and noticed shaft popped out about an inch or so. found c clip lost its tension so i replaced. now i notice in/out and slight up/down movement. going to try new needle bearings and see if there is any improvement.
any suggestions?
as always, thank you

Re: Help with front diff needle bearing removal

terribly sorry
i see where i messed up. yes, the front diff.

i removed the 10mm bolt and lock tab and tried to unscrew the jogwheel looking thing holding the needle bearing and it started to come out but then stops. is it suppose to stop or is it suppose to unscrew all the way out?
i am just using a long screw driver to tap on it and i am affraid if i tap to hard i may break off the teeth on the jogwheel looking screw.

Re: Help with front diff needle bearing removal

what happened to the posts? am i being marooned.

yeah, i've read it many times and i myself can not make sense of it. could not see any mention of the side bearing adjuster screw that i was talking about.

after a little more inspecting last night i believe i know why i have in/out play. the old c clip cut a groove into the back of the splines (the one in the diff). never noticed any metal shavings when i changed out the seal and old fluid.

so i would need to replace the spline ring and needle bearing and possibly that spacer in between the 2 of them but i can not even get past the stupid adjuster screw/bearing. sooo... thinking about doing this>post#22

lol - no marooning but seeing as you wanted help with the diff and not the transfer case, I cleaned the thread out ;)

The general consensus seems to be that once you are at this stage, you need to pull a diff from a yard and swap it out. I could be mistaken but Adam SYO237 had an issue with his popping out and after much effort, decided to swap the diff out.
