Hood Tuned chip vs ATR Pitbull chip

I currently have an ATR Pitbull chip....I am not sure I feel comfortable with the "tune" this chip provides. Has anyone ever tried Hood's chip in place of an ATR Pitbull Street chip? Is there a difference between the two chips? Enough of a difference to justify sending off the ATR Pitbull chip to be reflashed with the Hood chip?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hood has tuned a number of trucks. I would recommend him, because he can also tweak it to suit your truck's needs after the fact. Cant really do that with the ATR chip.

I am running his factory upgrade chip in my truck and have had no problems I am very happy with it plus he is easy to deal with

The biggest difference is an ATR chip is just a straight tune. You plug it in and hope to hell your truck runs decent with it. With Hood, if you at least give him a run down of your truck's modifications, he can give you a BASE tune around it.

Ive been running Hood's tunes for years now and have nothing but positive to say about him. My truck is actually sitting at his house right now after it broke at Shindig. He is one of the very few select people who I would ever leave my truck with and not have to worry if its going to be taken care of.

Hood burned me a custom chip! It performed a whole lot better than my previous ATR strip chip! From my comparison, the ATR was junk compared to HOODS! Go with HOOD!:2cents:

LowLife.....being in Georgia, I'll be glad to help you in person if we can coordinate it. Otherwise, the reburn will provide some pleasant gains. If you have specific mods, I can easily incorporate tuning to compliment them, something you won't find with a shelf chip tuned 15 years ago. Also, being in GA, you stand a better chance of getting 100% results since we share a similar elevation, etc.... Having said that, no tune "over the internet" is gonna be perfect.

What about the ATR tune makes you feel uncomfortable?

Also, if for some reason you're unhappy with the tune, I'll gladly reburn it for free to try and get the results you are after.

The ATR Street chip is very similar to a stock chip but it basically has open loop boost control and rich boost fueling.

Re: Hood Tuned chip vs ATR Pitbull chip

I'm running into some detonation issues I believe. I have tried about every possible thing I can try....with no luck. Last ditch effort this weekend will include SeaFoam the engine and change to 160 thermostat.

I have installed new plugs, new cap & rotor, new fuel filter, new IC pump. Only able to boost to around 12 psi when it starts pinging. Thinking it may be fuel related with the chip? It has an AFPR (AccuFab)....but no fuel gauge. Purchasing a cheap fuel gauge that attaches to the rail this weekend....just to make sure the AccuFab was setup correctly by the previous owner.

To make matters worse, one of the previous owners had a Ultimate chip installed and sold it and then purchased a Pitbull. I had to purchase a 2-bar MAP and install it for the ATR chip. Still no luck.

Purchase a vaccuum kit in the group by....going to replace all of that soon. Not sure what else to do now......running out of options.

Is there anything else that an Ultimate Chip may have had installed....that would be interfering with my ATR Pitbull chip? Figured out the MAP was different and changed it....anything else though? Thanks!

I have a Hoodtuned truck with a 3 bar on a relatively stock truck. He is an asset to this community. You will be more than happy with it especially if you are local to him. Good luck

I would double check your base FP and to see if its working at WOT. What does you O2 read at WOT, it can be too rich.

The only gauge I have is a boost gauge. I don't have any of the others yet.

Running too rich may be an issue (if the AccuFab was setup for the Ultimate and not the Pitbull)....would running too rich cause pinging though?

I would not get into it until you have a handle on the knock
