Re: How long has your truck been down?
why do other people have to justify to you why their truck isn't roadworthy? Not everyone just pays a shop to work on it while they do other things. A lot of people around here when they are doing large mods, rebuilds, etc....its their first time doing such things and they have to learn everything as they go along. I know thats how a lot of it has been for me.
Some of us have their trucks many miles away and its not as simple to just walking out into the garage to work on their truck. My truck was 100miles away when i rebuilt the motor. I drove to it probably 2-3 of 4 weekends a month for a year...and ended up putting 38,000 miles on my car in only 14months between work and working on my truck. Thats not a lot of driving to everyone, but it is to me. There is no way i'd do that with gas prices the way they are.
In the last 2 years...i threw out my back picking up a 4l80e so i couldn't work on my truck for a little while. I dislocated my index finger making my one hand pretty useless for anything requiring strength. And my biggie was that I seperated my shoulder and had a screw in it...that made me inoperable for 3-4 months. That was this past April...and i still can't carry heavy things without some pain. This doesn't even compare to some of the injuries that other people have gone through on this board...just my sob story.
Some people just simply can't afford to fix their truck so it has to sit. Some people have things like families, divorces, medical expenses, houses, life things...that just take priority or engulfs spare money/time.
I love my truck...but i can tell you that i would much rather, at any given time, be playing soccer, golfing, playing tennis/racquetball, running, cycling, mountainbiking, gambling, tailgating, attending PSU football games, travelling to visit friends, racing, spending time w/ the g/f....i could go on and on....instead of sitting in a garage working on my truck. There is only so much time in the day, time on a weekend...to get much accomplished. I am far from making excuses for why my truck isn't together....but frankly i don't care that it is in shambles. I am happy to live an active/busy life...and if that means having a toy that doesn't work most of the time....so be it.
