We have one caution light and no red lights in a 20 mile radius from my house. "Emission" isn't even in our dictionary around here.

I live in CA. So yes, I have to smog. I just bought my Sy, so I will have to do it soon.

I thought you couldn't even register it without a smog cert?

The person that sold the truck from has to pay for the smog test and repairs if needed. Before he buys it. The test is good for 90 days .

Yep, it's me Dave. I did have her smogged and it passed with ease. The only issue was the smog tech could not find a Sy in his computer until he spelled it with a "C". Then, I had to wait 30 minutes for him to re-calibrate his EVAP machine. I went to AAA to get her registered today and they told me the same thing about getting her weighed. I thought they were kidding. I will do that tomorrow then I am all legal to drive her.

I'm not sure I've ever bought a private party vehicle in California where the seller provided the "required" smog cert. Sure, it's the law, but it isn't followed. I once provided a cert on a vehicle I was selling. The buyer noticed that the signature on it was mine. (I smogged my own cars when I worked at the Dealership). He questioned whether the vehicle was really in compliance, or if I was just providing the paper? I offered to tear it up, and he could find out on his own, but assured him that it would pass. He kept the cert. And drove the car for almost another 10 years. It was a good one.

SoP that you, Don and I are referring to is purchasing a Syclone from out of state. He's going to have to have it smogged, VIN-verified (AutoClub can do this), and take it to a Certified Scale for a weight certificate because it's a pick-up, and will need to have it's unladen weight verified for the required "commercial plates".

I have collector plates in Ohio. $119.87 per year. $55 is a special plate fee.
