How many Sy/Tys do you think are REALLY left?

I haven't been on the boards in a while, was contemplating selling the typhoon a few months ago because it just sits and I never drive it, but decided against it. Anyways just went on a drive in the typhoon today, and had it on a 300mile round trip from Ohio a few weeks ago, it runs flawless, and actually gets decent mileage. Ive had the truck for almost 6 years and its taken me this long to get everything worked out to where I can drive it and not worry about anything. This got me thinking about how many trucks are really left. I'm narrowing this down to a category of the truck must be able to be driven on a trip somewhere with no worries, has the original drivetrain(I'm talking no v8 swaps, 4l80e is fine/reliability mods etc.) Basically saying you could head out to your garage fire it up and drive to visit someone in another state without thinking twice. My guess is theres less than a thousand....

Add clean title to that list, that drops the number even more. Who really knows ?

mine has a salvage title but never been wrecked just because the state it got sold to thinks of theft recovery being salvage has no damage no where and no body filler rust free with only 60k miles drove 22 hours in it flawless thats the reason i got it its in way better condition that some i have seen with clear titles and have rust everywhere

Not really what he is talking about the less six cyl. trucks out there should drive up the value. I was just adding that there doesn't seem to be many with clean titles. still nice trucks, just having a clean title is a big deal if u are going to do a restore.

Mine has a clean title, and I've put 10k miles in it since sept 2010. No major issues, couple little things but I would trust it for a good road trip.

I look at all the "unaccounted for" trucks not listed on the registry and that should give you an idea of the number of stock trucks that could be sitting out there.

Mine runs!
And it's original.
Well, for the most part. Rebuilt stock motor w/ very few reliability upgrades.
Clear title.
I don't question it's ability to make it to another state, but won't be attempting that until the A/C is fixed or the weather breaks.
Although I am less than a 30-45 minute drive to Kentucky. :)

Re: How many Sy/Tys do you think are REALLY left?

I tried searching through the dtabase here but couldn't find it. It might not even be on this site. Somewhere there is a list of all 'known' destroyed trucks. If memory serves, I believe there were around 3 or 400 sy's that are known to be destroyed.
I would say it's closer to 5 or 600 in reality. Salvage title can probably account for another 500, maybe more I'd say.

That leaves you with roughly 1800 Sy's.

Now, out of those, how many are actually running? Half?
My figures could be way off, but I think there are a lot less of the rigs than people think, IMHO.

Mine has a clean title, runs and drives and looks good...still with original engine and trans (rebuilt and built) on both, but still numbers matching. And as long as it's not too hot (A/C delete), I'd take her anywhere. When I bought it I drove it almost 600 miles home, and have put plenty more on it since then.

Clean title here, all original and stock except for K&N filter in stock box. Can drive it almost anywhere without issues but its a little tired due to mileage

Mine is running great, just put about 2000 miles on it this summer doing some road trips for car shows.
Everything is reliable, original 120k miles, still pulls strong, haven't taken it to the 1/4 mile but it runs 100 feet in 2.8sec @ 40mph, which seems pretty good. Clean title, no accidents or damage, It got repainted a few years ago due to the paint needing a little sprucing up.

#994 and 100% bone stock with numbers matching drivetrain. I spent another 4k once I bought it to get her up to spec, modernized, and reliable. Over half of that was spent at GN Northwest. The truck runs perfect and I just took it to Chelan and back with zero issues. AC was recharged at GN and works perfectly. She will get a bodywork/new coat of paint, wheels redone, and some interior brightening and then will be put in storage for safe keeping in a climate controlled environment. I bought this for a collector and only plan on driving it till early 2012. Mileage is 124,xxx

The title is clean. Carfax was clean. Carpet under the seats was hideous....Clean now...hahahahah

Well then I guess I could maybe possibly almost kinda sorta make it to another state in ours. I am only minutes from Kin-tuck-e....
