yes mine was 2k. but i took everyting apart and reassembled.
if you dont do it this way and spend at least that much, dont waste your money! otherwise you do more damage than good. Unless its your bothers shop or something. Just remember anyone that knows what they are looking at can see those shortcuts.

If you're strapped for cash and are patient you can always hit up local bodywork schools. They're always looking for donor cars and they do a great job. I've had my '57 Chevy and my Sy done by a class and they came out beautifully. Total cost for me for the Sy was around $300 since I only had to buy paint and some other random supplies. The only drawback is that it takes about 6 months for them to do it.
Another thing - somebody always knows somebody who does body work. Most mechanics/body guys who don't own their own shop do side work. I know that is how I am getting mine done when the time comes. Paint and a couple cases of beer (not during the painting) and slip him a couple hundred for his troubles.

Listen to what is said above.. An "all over" around here will run you anywhere from 1500 for a nice "looks good from 50ft" paint job to 4500 for something that is nice and clean but not world of wheels show worthy.

Like MadPSI said, try looking into the technical college thing. I used to have a 91 RS camaro, hit a light pole with it, didn't feel like messing with it so I gave it to my brother and he had the local technical college paint and repair it. I'd have to say that they did a very good job, very clean and it seems like quality, holding up almost 1 1/2 years now and still looking good. Naturlly it's not warrantied or anything but you don't pay for the labor either, just the materials. Just make sure their instructor is picky, cause he oversee's the finished product. :wink:
Another thing is to do as much prep work as you can. Removing parts that you don't want painted. A lot of time - this is the most time consuming. If you are having someone do it on the side and see if they need help with anything - learn a little bit in the process this way.
Have him make the paint recommendation also. These guys do it for a living and know what sprays the best. Let him know your intentions also as far as how good you want the finished product. Some people are much less picky. If he is a 'car guy' he'll understand. Or she

I can see where the guy who had the truck before me had it painted. The painters didn't remove all of the cladding, so where the cladding usually flexes a little with the truck, the paint cracked. The body and cladding are separate pieces.
Another thing about price that my sister's boyfriend told me (he works at a Vette restoration shop)... if they completely strip the paint, you're looking at a pretty penny. It cost him nearly $6k to have his '68 Chevy stepside painted.
Wait until you have the money to get the paint job you want... if you skimp, you'll regret it later!

Best thing to do is start asking locals who they know that paints.
Luckily a fellow SyTy owner here has a brother that paints.
Same deal, he's doing it on the side in his garage.
I do the prep sanding, he oversees it, tells me what I'm doing right and wrong.
He sprays the materials I bought for free.
I help him and his brother turn wrenches in return.
And we all have a pretty good time just hanging out bullshittin'.
However, It will be about 8 weeks start to finish doin it on the side.
I took it off I'm putting it back on.
Total cost to date: $600 in DuPonts finest materials
What its gonna look like back on the truck: $Priceless...
