How reliable to hit mid 12's?

Looking at getting a Syclone... something stock and around 50,000 miles. How reliable would these trucks be to have running in the mid-12's but still use as a daily driver? Would only be hitting the track maybe 2-3x a year, so nothing excessive. The occassional street run for fun too though ;)

Also, what kind of mods would it take to hit the mid-12's? Would you only recommend doing this to these trucks if you have mechanic skills? (which I have none of really hehe, only very basic)

Thanks guys :)

The cost isn't that much, $1000 Infact a Syclone tuned with just and ultimate chip and the reliability mods should run high 12's.

The key to running mids 12's is tuning. Unless your lucky, you going to need a scan tool. You can do mid 12's on pump gas if have alky injection kit. (BTW a manual IC switch is not needed, the ultimate does this for you)

Well here we have 94 octane gas, so that will definatly help!

I tried searching around to see what that chip does exactly and what benefits it has, but couldn't find much info on it. What kind of cool things does it do? :D

So having it run mid-12's won't be hard on the AWD system?

it only cost me $450 to get mine to 12.6 et's, and its been driven to Chicago, KC, and was my daily driver for about 18 months, pretty reliable still if you ask me.

Look at it this way. They brake under stock power, under lame driving conditions. Make it faster and it doesnt get any better.

HOWEVER, my truck is where you say or better now. I should be running low 12s, and I drive it to work everyday. What mods? Torque converter, turbo, chip, fuel pump, fpr, exhaust, and saftey stuff like aux trans and ic coolers.

Will it brake? yes. But the truth is, it was gonna brake in stock trim. When things brake you get an excuse to upgrade. Im not too worried about it, and I drive it nice most of the time, maybe a quick WOT blast once or twice a week.

The chip has 16 different programs, the different programs have different levels of timing and boost. This chip will make a poor running truck run worse though.

Even on a stock truck, boost launch are hard on the transmision and front propshaft. Both are upgradable, but count on both breaking. 94 octane isn't going to saved you either, you really need to have truck running properly before modifying it. SyTy's also have weak rods and piston (especially rods). Racing an out of tune truck will leave you stranded with a rod poking out the side of the block. The stock internals can run high 11's, but they have almost no margin of error if you make a mistake in tuning it.
