How to reach distributor hold down bolt?

I have two different distributor wrenches and I can't reach the bolt to loosen it for adjustment. Anyone have experiances with a specific wrench(and procedure) that I can use to get to this bolt? Thanks.

I just replaced my distributor last Thursday. Pretty simple, in 20 minutes actually. I removed the IC and distributor cap and used a 9/16" swivel socket in a 3/8" drive. I also used an 18" extension, as it doesn't wobble like multiple 3"ers. It's the must have for bellhousing bolts and whatnot, so if you don't have either one, get 'em both. After I installed the new one and adjusted timing, I was actually able to finish tightening without removing the cap. Install the IC after you're done with your adjustments. HTH,

best thing to do is buy a 9/16" distributor wrench. access is from the drivers side & a drop light makes seeing it a breeze.

Yeah, that's what I used, and the IC and Dist. cap remained in place. Considering most things on these trucks are so difficult, this was easy.

try using that 9/16 dis. wrench and going in through the passenger side. its a tight fit, but with persistance it can be done!!!!!

on the 9/16" distributor wrench, if you put a right angle bend in it at the wrench end ( just a little bit) it will give you more room so you don't hit the intake.

Yeah, get the 9/16" distributor wrench and you'll be good to go. I can adjust my timing in less than 5 minutes now. I know the one I use is a Craftsman, if that helps any.

I managed to use a swivel/socket, and extension. gave me better turning power then the dist wrench my dad had. Best place I could find to attack it was from the driver's side.

i dont know about those with steel ic lines though.. ug.
might help to take the cap off too, clear up some fanegling room
