a few weeks ago i was cruisin with a few buddys who thought my truck was freakin cool because they has never seen one before but they all knew what a lightning was and thought there was no way my 14 year old v6 could beat one. so they each give me 5 bucks to go out and race people. i unbutton the tonnaue and 2 get in the back and one in the front so after driving around we say screw it were goin to see 40 year old virgin. so right after saying that a blue 1998 viper gts with the license plate IDTAIL flies by us and gets on the highway i was like well i guess there nothin to race till after the movie . so we stop at the next light and by a fender of god this red 01-03 lighting rolls up to the light on the other side of this dam 4 runner and the guy just stares at me so i figure if hes driving a lightning he knows what a syclone is. i start torqueing it up getting ready to launch and with only a quarter tank left i knew it would cut out after i left the line so i say screw it everybody lay down .then i hear him torque it up to and before i know it the light turns green and i jump after him and then my friends wave to him as i run off and leave his ass 1. 2. 3... 4... 5.. then i let off . the guy keeps on it and flies by me a few seconds later so embaressed that he got beat by a v6 with 4people in it. never saw him that night but i did see a lighting pop up the next week in autotrader that looked just like his . LOL

5 seconds isn't much of a race. We were having this discussion the other day on our local forum. All the AWD turbo cars around here dont want to race a full 1/4.Of course something with a turbo and AWD will murder anything off the line. especially big horsepower cars on the street with no traction. Try an race at least 13 seconds for me next time!

Re: i almost forgot the lightning.

Try not racing with people in the bed next time. I know you told them to lay down, but you are leaving at close to 1 G of force, and it would be real easy for one of your passengers to exit the bed. Sell the Sy, buy a Ty. I know I would have done the same thing (assuming I could unbuttom my tonneau), but what if...?

Good kill none the less. And never mind the troll, he's pissed he gets out launched by a Metro.

I get tons of races here. Maybe you just live in a non-auto part of town :dunno:

Re: i almost forgot the lightning.

The reason I never race is cuz I'm never driving my truck, but I know some people complain they never get anyone to race them and they are driving around looking for some.

I think its where youre at. Here in Colorado Springs, people are always racing. I get atleast 10 races a weekenmd. Not all are worth posting of course I just post the ones that are with decent cars. DEVOURER, Ive beat down a few Lightnings in the 1/4. They arent all that. The only one i ever lolst to was when I first got my truck and didnt know how to launch it right. That and my truck was in horrible running shape.

He probably would have beat the lightning. I'm not saying they are all that. He just should have raced it! A syty is practically unbeatable in an intersection race. All the ricer kids want to race there AWD turbo cars a block and then let off. I just don't want syty's put into that group. They can win in the 1/4 too!

very true people around here like to do those short pulls, or better yet they like to wait for you to slow down then fly past you and tell everyone they destroyed you in 3rd gear.... its very annoying. but then you get alot of guys usually the supra owners who want to go for miles.

we need to find a happy medium!!!

Re: i almost forgot the lightning.

1/4 mile run from a light, on the street, is a long way to go. Your in town usually, and the next light is not "usually" that far away, and I'm not sure I want to be getting up to 100/105 mph to prove a point.

Now out in the boonies is another story all together.

Yeha thats true. We have a 1/4 spot measured out here and everythign so in "high profile" type races we go there. Another annoying thing is the flasher move, very lame IMO.

good point, i love just being able to launch on someone and shut it down around 60 or 70 around the city. gets the job done i guess.

Re: i almost forgot the lightning.

Around here near downtown Atlanta, the majority of runs occur from a roll on the interstate. Traffic and cops usually put a damper on light-to-light action. This is fine with me, since I drive a supra regularly, and its a better indicator of how much HP a vehicle makes and overall performance anyway.
Out at the scene on weekends is different, but a lot of guys are figuring out that its easier to hook from a roll, esp with the power that cars make these days, so its becoming more popular. The "1/8th mile specialists" are finding it harder and harder to get races, except between one another, which is also fine if thats what they want to do.
I had an '02 lighting btw, and I found it to be relatively weak from a roll. Granted, it was stock, but I always wanted to run from a stop if possible. After I got outrun by a midly bolt-on WRX (not even an STI) from a roll, I got pretty depressed. Maybe thats why I only had it two months LOL

Re: i almost forgot the lightning.

Im not a big fan of racing from a roll only because you ahve to end up going so fast that when or if you see a cop you more than likely will not have time to slow down. Also , have you ever gotten a ticket for 40+ over the limit? Its not a fun day in court let me tell you. If we had an audabahn (sp)? here I would definately get into more high end raing but around here I thinks its jsut too much. Plus, your excuses become slim pickins.
