I am so done with ups

I am so god damn mad right now!!!!

So i sent off my Down pipes, cross over tubes and waste gate dump tube along with a set of headers and side pipes for a customer cobra replica we are building, got a call from jet hot saying that UPS destroyed the DOUBLE WALL box we had it all in.

We had a full exhaust system for a 34 ford we are building, we sent out not to long ago to get jet hotted, and jet hot called saying that the box was destroyed and the rear pipes were severly damaged. they were able to straighten the ends out for us and make it all useable again, but it wasn't cheap for their guys to do it. so when we received the exhuast system back we reused that double wall box from jet hot to pack my stuff and the cobra stuff.

well jet hot called and said ups destroyed that box, looks like it was drug behind the truck for several miles, and the side pipes are completely ruined, and my stuff is severly damaged as well, the headers took the least beating. this is now the second time UPS has screwed us and we are DONE using them.

we are awaiting pics, the normal driver who delivers to us informed us that we are probably not going to get reimbursed for the parts or damage, he is a super nice guy and always does what he can for us, but he said unfortunately we are probably SOL.

Jet hot's desk lady informed us that JOHN FORCE sent out a set of his personnal headers to jet hot to be coated and UPS detroyed those as well, completely unuseable. john force could probably BUY ups with the amount of money he has and UPS told him to kiss off. they've been fighting for nearly 7 months now and to no avail. so most likely we are screwed.

at this point i wanna kill someone, but other than that i don't know what we are going to do. All the stuff combined including purchases and shop time custom fitting everything is close to $2000 plus all my stuff i have nearly a grand into it plus fitting everything.

for a ball park total of $3k

Sorry for the long rant but i am FURIOUS right now

I use FedEx Ground, in the last 10 years I have had 3 claims and they paid on all of them. pack it good and put insurance on it. Oh and they are cheaper than UPS.

Re: I am so done with ups

I think it's hit and miss with all shipping companies. I have stuff shipped to my dealership using UPS, FedEx Ground, FedEx Express, and FedEx Freight. I have an equal amount of damaged items with all the carriers, it's just freight are usually more expensive. They once delivered a roof panel to me that was folded in half. But getting paid, HA. Getting paid with any company has been a pain, and very rarely happens. I watched the driver with UPS Supply Chain Solutions (used to be Emry Worldwide) literally throw a windshield off the back of his truck, even though it was plastered with large flourescent stickers saying it was glass. They claimed it fell under their "glass" policy, and was limited to $50. So I got a check for $50 for the $500 heated windshield.

UPS stands for utterly poor service. I don't use them anymore. Had way too many claims and they rarely pay. Was lucky a few times that I was able to get a claim processed. Usually their response is improper packing, no claim will be paid.
I won't get into semantics and or racial comments. But there seems to be a trend when I do recieve damaged UPS packages. And unfortunately I can't pick what companys use for sending me products.
Fedex ground has been cheaper and a lot better with claims. Have still had things ruined for no reason with Fedex and it was tough to get paid out. Time consuming.

Why on earth would you send $3k worth of stuff in a cardboard box? I would've done everything possible to keep my stuff in good shape, including building a "crate" around it out of 2x4's or sending it in a Rubbermaid thing like people ship trannys in, still with a crate built inside to keep the Rubbermaid thing intact.

Re: I am so done with ups

If you send the parts in a rubbermaid they will claim "insufficient packaging". UPS sucks. Heres an personal example. I sent a tranny in a heavy box and it was damaged. I was told sorry but we wont pay and next time send it in a rubbermaid bin. The next time i did just that. This box apparently had the 400 wire ties torn off it and they found the tranny in their lost and found depot in kentucky. Get this......they tell me they will send it back to me and that there is nothing wrong with the tranny at all. They ship it to me in a CARDBOARD box and it arrives damaged. Guess what.....they said "INSUFFICIENT PACKAGING" I ****in flipped! They packed and shipped it and they wouldnt pay! They told me that since it was originally shipped in a rubbermaid bin it was insufficiently packed. They said that if i packed it right none of this would have happend! Bottom line they suck and they always say the same thing. I use to ship freight with dhl and never had a problem and they were cheap too. Stinks they dont offer their service anymore.

What happens when they are taken to court for stuff like this? If a judge finds them at fault, don't they have to pony up and pay? :2cents:

I think shippers in genral suck ass. I had this dealer I bough a part from use fed ex and the broke it well by the time they got it shipped back to the dealer(the part never even showed up the noticed it broke and sent it back before it got to me) the dealer had closed down and so I am out 300 dollars becuase there is no way to even start a claim unless you are the shipper. I was pissed

Re: I am so done with ups

I used that double wall box for Cobra pipes once..and just once. 3k in pipes destroyed. We had it insured and it is STILL going through the courts. After that, I made a wooden crate. I have used it over a dozen times now. For windshields, I had to have a special box made with custom cut styrofoam packing. Even then, I have to over-insure it. I agree; UPS sucks!

Re: I am so done with ups

Insurance is a joke ... you never get what you deserve, IF you even get anything.

If they think your item is insufficiently packaged, they need to tell you BEFORE they accept it. It would make claims a LOT easier on both ends that way ---

If you want any claims to be paid by UPS, it needs to be a box inside of a box with sufficient packaging.

Re: I am so done with ups

Is it a location thing? www.dhl.com is still in existence and I can ship DHL from our local Mail N Copy. :dunno:

DHL only does international stuff now. I used to use them for ground shipments. They were the same price as UPS, but customer service was better, not once did I have anything get damaged, and their shipping area for 1 day ground was a lot larger than UPS. However, in the rural areas around Indy, DHL would use a courier, and the stuff wouldn't get there until 4-5pm. Which for a body shop, that's usually too late to get it installed on a vehicle and out the door. In those cases, I'd use UPS.

I went on a dock tour for UPS when I was in college (job hunting), and its not pretty. Boxes get thrown from belt to belt like footballs, and when they jam they just get kicked and shoved until the jam clears. Unloaders just throw them onto the conveyors so they can move on to the next trailer. Its chaos.

I work with a kid who used to work for UPS, thats exactly what he said, things get thrown and kicked.

Re: I am so done with ups

I worked nights for UPS for 6 months in college also. The supervisor at the time said EVERYTHING gets thrown (yes...litterally thrown, I asked to make sure I hadn't mis-heard him) onto the conveyor belt. He then proceeded to tell me that if it was labled fragile or handle with care or...well...anything denoting that one should take some caution with the package, to not pay any attention to it, whoever was shipping it obviously didn't pack it well enough, and if it broke...it wasn't UPS's fault for not packing it properly.
