I drag raced my Ty for the first time.

Here a picture of my 13.70 pass,

I lifted twice because I thought I heard the engine pinging. I think it was just the change in my center console, (had a helmet on) it was hard to hear.

So did ya beat the El Camino even with you lifting twice??:dunno: Nice pic!! Looks like you had fun. I see the SRT8 behind you...wonder how those run???

lol, that Elky was running in the 17's, so yeah, when I looked in my rear veiw, he was way way back there. The SRT runs pretty hard! He was running 13.0's that day but normally runs 12.95's most of the time. Its got a cold air intake and PC tune, he was very hesitant to say much about it. But he did come and talk to me first about the Ty.

Great time! What are your mods? I plan on going to track once I save up money just in case something breaks.

Hey thanks guys! I dont really have any mods. I mainly took the time to get everything working properly. I had removed my manual boost controller and checked all perimeters of my engine. Once fiqured out, I put the mbc back in set at 18lbs, put a stock air filter box in w/k&n. My timing is retarded a bit, it has an additional liquid intercooler in front of the radiator. Lower temp thermostat. Thats it. I know it would go 13.60's with a bit more practice.

That's about right for a stocker Ty. It'd probably do a bit better if you put a bit of 100 octane no-lead in it and got rid of the timing retard. Your wheels are likely quite a bit heavier than stock as well.

Pull the front cover on the stock airbox, and cut the hole bigger (like the whole front of the box). You'll pick up a couple tenths.

Paper clip to lock up the TCC will get you another tenth or so.

Makes me think you don't have a stock chip, if you can hold 18 psi without hitting the overboost limiter...

Re: I drag raced my Ty for the first time.

I was thinking about putting 100 octane in it. The wheels are a bit heavier, but they hook, the stockers I know wont. I put them on for a few days back and four wheel drifted the damn thing making a turn. lol, What do you think about this, the Ty came with a open small cone k&n filter. I took it out and put a stock box in because I know for sure the air is colder coming in this way. So, which pins do I paper clip for the TCC? I was thinking about this already too but didn't know about being able to mcgyver it. Guess Im gonna have to pull computer and check the chip huh?

Re: I drag raced my Ty for the first time.

A cone filter on the driver's side won't be much different from the stock airbox with a K&N and an open front.

I've played a lot with the stock inlet, and the major problem is the plastic duct that's just behind the bracket for the stock airbox. I've played with trying to duct air to it, but it always ends up hurting airflow through that duct.

I have a short chunk of 4" flex duct that I can run to the driver's headlight area. If I pull the headlight, it directs cool air to the stock airbox. Doesn't seem to gain too much, except on really hot days.

50% chance or better that you have a Pitbull chip.

Re: I drag raced my Ty for the first time.

you know, I was going to make a elbow and remove the headlight too. I have a spare headlight bucket that I was going to open the hole up and put in. I didn't really think it would do much more either. I'd rather put a smaller battery in and do it on the passenger side. I did drill some holes in the core support where the intake from air box draws air in from. I was also looking at it yesterday thinking of make a deflection piece behind the grill too catch the air and force it over to the air box inlet, but my additional ic is there also. Is the pitball chip any good? I haven't taken the computer out yet.

If you put it on the turbo side, you pretty much have to make an enclosure so it can suck in outside air.
Leaving an open element in the turbo area means sucking in air from the hottest area in the engine compartment.

Pitbull is ok... nothing terribly wrong with it.
