I need new tires

Track rental. Today's goal was 100 in the 1/8th. Boost was 20-21psi, timing at 20degrees. Running C12 at high 11s AFR. Each pass I launched at 5psi. Every pass the truck slid 5 feet side to side for the first half track. 8 year old Yokohama cheapo tires.

First pass was 11.30 @ 117, 1.65 60ft. Sliding all over. And the ignition was breaking up. I'm thinking I didn't have enough timing in for C12.

Second pass I left a little easier. 1.70 60ft. 11.31 @ 119.

Last pass I upped the timing 2 degrees, but still kept the boost at 21. On the 2-3 shift it had a bad wiggle.

Plug looked great after each pass. It showed it wanted few more degrees.

Nice Brandon, I definetely know how you feel about needing Tires. I have Street BGFs in the Front and MT ET Streets in the Rear with Traction bars. Still spun quite a bit. What really helped was a Dry hop which got me a 1.52 60'

What RPMs were your shifts? Locking the Converter?

I always lock the converter on the starting line.

It should shift at 5600, but I was feathering the throttle to keep it straight, it shifted between 4000 and 5200 on the different passes. Last pass I kept it wide open and it shifted at 5650.

Re: I need new tires

Who's the other guy doin' 160 in 8.7? Wow.

I looked at your intervals. I've got you to 60', I can do a 1.65 on a good launch. :rotf: After that yu da man! Nice run. You're 2 10ths quicker the rest of the way. A -really- good run for me is 11.58. Normal is .70-.80 range.

FYI:

My shifts are at 1-2 is at 4900, 2-3 is at 5500, TC @ 5200. I can do 93 at the 1/8 but normal is 91-92. My best trap is 118+. 120 would be nice. 20# on 91 octane. Advance @ 19 and I'm right on the edge. With race gas I might squeeze in a few more degrees. I'm actually OK with where it's at otherwise I'd fiddle with the governor a bit.

I launch at 2600 on street tires but I lower the rears to 22 left and 25 right. Helps a bunch. Much more and I'm looking at the tree. Gets squirrely(sp?) quick so I know what you're talking about. 5' and you stayed in it? Better man than I...

Good tires and it's look out 10s

Nice job.

Re: I need new tires

nice whats your build if you don't mind sharing

The stuff that matters is. 9:1CR, 218 cam, Unported Brodix heads, PTE6766

My everyday pump gas tune is 18psi on 20deg, I probably should've turned it up higher, but I met my goal.

Re: I need new tires

I am surprised you even ran 1.65 60' on 8 year old tires. I had a set of Yokohama HTZ summer tires. I bought them in 2005 and by 2010 I noticed they were getting really hard. I had friend who bought the same tires for his Corvette and he had the same issue. I was super disappointed because my truck is garaged year round. I got a good 'deal' on them as close out on tirerack. I didn't realize about tire date codes until recently and found that my tires made in the fall of 2002. I went back through my receipts and to confirmed I bought them in feb 2005. I was irritated that I bought a 2 1/2 year old new tire, but it did make me feel a little better about Yokohama lasting more than 5 years. I will never buy close out tires for my Syclone again because I have replaced every set of tire on this truck because of age and/or hardness not wear.

mine are Yokohama ES100s, i got a deal on TireRack. The fronts still have probably 5k miles left, the backs are getting close to the wear bars. When they were new, and the truck was slower, i could 60 high 1.5s at full tire pressure. Now I lower the pressure and boost launch easy, and they just spin. Under easy driving as soon as the boost hits, it breaks the backend loose.

Some DRs and a good 10# launch and i should be cooking with gas.

Re: I need new tires

I'm glad those brodix heads are working well for you! Were you able to squeeze more timing in with the aluminum vs iron?

i dont have any back to back data. But i have been able to "get away" with more timing in my base pump gas tune, about 3 degrees more.

I pulled 2 plugs again after my last run, and i couldve gone another 4 degrees to get to the bend. but that was on C12.

Re: I need new tires

i'm going to keep my 17x9s, i think they look better than stock.

I will order some drag radials next spring. I've parked it for this summer, getting ready for winter changes.

Of course, I've always been a guy who likes having drag tires on separate wheels, was gonna use them on my sy I just acquired, but it came with disc brakes all way around, so now stock wheels no workee!
