Idle way too high at running temp

Hey guys ,,, I just tuned up the Ty this week ,, I had an idle problem where it would idle at 1500 rpm and then vary all over the place ,, I got a new IAC and the idle is where its supposed to be when cold ,, after warming up to running temp the idle goes to 2200 RPM and wont come down ,, check engine light comes on saying idle problem (Duh!!!!) ..
Anyway I searched the site and nothing related to exactly to my problem is posted ,, Im going to try a vacume leak test next .. BTW The Ty is all stock, no mods except fuel pump, adjustable FPR,and K&N filter ..

thanks in advance
Jon

Check for vac leaks for sure. Couple of thoughts from the manual: If you have a scan tool TPS volts should be less than 1.25 with throttle closed. EGR valve not closing all the way.

The only vacume line on my Syclone I didn't change was the one that runs lenght wise along the intake manifold on the pass side and when it pops off, once a year it will cause my idle to do as you say. The time I remove the intercoolerI plan on changing it out as well.

Re: Idle way too high at running temp

Man thanks for the replys ,, I have been searching around the intake tract just now ,, I removed the IC and the TB ,, everything looked OK,so I started looking at the vacume lines ,, so far I found 4 connections leaking and a small hole in the tube connecting the IC to the TB ,, I used the bicycle tube test and its now narrowed down to the TB ,, I can wiggle the linkage where the cables attach and make the leak change pitch ,, anyone know if they have rebuild kits or should I replace the unit ,, what about aftermarket TB's are they any better ????

Thanks again for the help !!!!

Re: Idle way too high at running temp

I believe (do a search) there's an outfit that converts 'em over to ball bearings. Something that I need as well BTW. Maybe I'm wrong but no one that I've heard yet has seen any improvement with the larger TB's

Re: Idle way too high at running temp

you also wanna check to be sure the ecm doesnt think it's in gear thus commanding the higher rpm. other than that you need to adjust your throttle stop till you see the IAC counts around 40 at idle while watching datamaster.

Re: Idle way too high at running temp

Well after checking everything I could think of for vacume leaks I decided to reset the IAC as per instructions found on the forum ,, funny thing is it will idle right back where its supposed to until you start to drive it ,, then it imediately goes back to around 1800 RPM until I reset it again ,, could it possibly be a bad connection at the ECM ,, should I drop down the ECM and unplug it and remove the chip and re seat it and plug everything back in ?????? could that help ???

I'll try and check the neutral gear switch to see if everything cool ..

I need to get a Data master for this Ty ,,it would help to find these problems easier ..

Thanks again
Jon
