Re: if you think you know anything

Start with fuel pressure and ignition. Until you know those are 100% correct you're shooting in the dark. IOW Ign module, bad ground, fuel pressure bad because of filter or the pump itself. Then look at MAP sensor, FPR. Check timing :2cents:

DITTO Did you check to see if the TPS was *actually* bad before you replaced it? It could be a bad connection or even a bad ECM. Replacing parts without confirming that they are bad only wastes time and money. We need to know more information about the problem before we can get the bottom of it. Did the truck run well until you did something or there was an event of some sort that caused it to run poorly? If you had data logging capability, this would be MUCH easier to figure out :2cents:...

is the pump a newer Walbro unit? You could have gotten one of the now notorious bad ones and running out of gas could have triggered its failure. :2cents:

Both pumps may be running, but not pumping enough pressure or volume. You need to find out how much press it has. Hopefully you have at least 45lbs idle with vacuum line unplug and block. When My ECM went bad it did all kinds of strange stuff. Here the links

Re: if you think you know anything

A couple things that will cause that is either running too rich. Or also running race gas (expecially leaded race gas) that kills cats quick.

I had something similar happen to my 95 z28 lt1 the cat was clogged from running too rich and would not rev over 3k. Then i pulled the cat busted the honeycomb out and she was like new.

so what was the final verdict? my car blows black exhaust when floored and the turbo goes to the top and there is not much power. I am thinking it might need a new cat and wanted to know if that helped with yours. Mine gets hot as hell near the passenger door as well.

If it is blowing black exhaust, you may be burning really rich. To test the cat you would have to do a pressure test on it. But if you have over 50,000 miles on it you may want to replace it anyway. What do you mean Hot as hell?

if you are wearing socks without shoes as a passenger it is too hot to stand for a long time. It ha s100,000 miles on it by the way. Is replacing the cat a thing that I need to go to a syty specific shop or would any reputable muffler place be ok? Is there anything I should know before replacing it?

Ya, it's got a Turbo
Re: if you think you know anything

It won't be a cat issue if your turbo is "Running all the way to the top". Plugged cat means poor exhaust flow, which means poor turbo spooling.

Re: if you think you know anything

Some of the people here will have a bolt in HP unit that you can just bolt in. Look here, Depending on where you live. What do you mean the turbo goes to the top?

http://www.syty.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46

I live in Los Angeles.the turbo winds up high and to the top of the gauge , it is not smooth at all.it is really slow off the line. what exactly does bolt in hp unit do? ^^^^^^^^^^yes , judging by the factory needle
