Re: Importing a Ty

Importing is easy, as long as you have your paper work in order. And with the exchange rate right now it's a plus.

You do not need Daytime Running Lights or an RIV Inspection to register/license it in Canada. It's over the 15 year mark.

It was about this time 2 years ago I started looking seriously. Was the end of Feb when I found what I wanted, and felt good about the seller.

No RIV inpection but you will need an out of province inspection (at least in Alberta I did) and they won't pass it unless you have DRLs. All vehicles in Canada with a manufacture date of 1988 or later must have DRLs I was told. What a lot of guys do is hot wire the lights to come on all the time in order to pass the inpection and then just undo it afterwards. I put a module in from Part Source that turns on the lights 10 seconds after start. It's even hooked up so that if I apply the parking brake the lights go out for at the drive in (not that there are anymore left to go to). Unfortunately GM does not have anything you can simply plug in to do this on our trucks.

Re: Importing a Ty

Now shameless plug time,

I will be selling my Garnet 93, just no room to store it anymore. It was an Arizona truck most of its life, the only snow it has seen was when I backed it out of the garage last year to take a few pics in the light.

Just had a fresh coat of paint and it was done properly, all the glass came out, etc.

Let me know if your interested and I can give you some details.

Where are the decals! You can't show off that it's a Typhoon if there are no decals. Mind you no one can read anymore so I guess it doesn't matter.

This is a lot nicer then the red/red from Japan with the nice wheels you were selling last year. Just curious what price range you have in mind?

I really admired Tony's Garnet there, and assuming it's stock with mechanical work done previously to leaving Arizona the miles are way up there...But yeah, whats in minde for price??? He probably hasn't gotton around to putting the 93 decals on yet, or tweaking the gap on the front bumper!

Re: Importing a Ty

I was always told anything 1990 and newer had to have DRL's, but I can't say for sure whether this has changed or not. I know that when you import one, you can take it to your local Canadian Tire for the inspection you need to register it in Ontario, and they always look for DRL's, so I'm guessing they still have to be there, but could be wrong. Well now I gotta go put the motor back in mine. Happy searching and good luck. I know that there is one in Ohio on the board here for a decent price that seems to be a good driver, if it's still for sale.

Not if you're bringing it into Ont. DRL's are only necessary with a RIV inspection, and an RIV inspection is only necessary if the vehicle is younger than 15 years. My Sy didn't need anything, just the standard Provincial Safety insp. And, DRL's are NOT part of that insp.

This is an RIV inspection. Not the same as a Provincial Safety Insp. RIV checks for English/French warning labels, DRL's, & speedo in KM's.
A safety insp is completely different.

The french/english lables are only for air bags...we don't have them so we dont need 'em!! I just had to put in a DRL module when I brought mine in. I installed it in a "temperary" fashion. The RIV inspection is only for 15 years or newer. It even says so on their web site.

Yours was under the 15 year mark when you brought in it, right Derek?

Re: Importing a Ty

i stand corrected for the 15 year rule. Mine needed drl's, sticker stating odometer/speedometer is in miles, child safety restraint....
