Injector Queston

My build is going to consist of forged internals and not sure what cam. Probably stock at this point. I have suspicions that my injectors arent up to par but could be wrong. I am thinking of jusst buying new ones anyway. First off, on my DM runs my INJDC hits all the way up 120%. I have a stock turbo housing with a GT30 wheel in it. My mods are going to be simple, no CAT and soon 3" DP. Should I go with stock injectors or a larger one? I also plan on upgrading turbos next yeaar and cam if I have to. If I got a larger INJ, can I regulate it (restrict it) with the Ultimate chip? So i.e., if I got 50# and really neeeded say....38#'s, can I run the 50's but keep em down to a 38 spec so to speak with chip? Also, when do I need to change cams? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Injector Queston

Yes you can run less fuel then the injectors are capable of. I have 50's and they run about 75% DC @ WOT.

Re: Injector Queston

go with the 50's imo.

that way you have a much larger pool of good bin's to choose from. if you get something else you wont have nearly as much support for it.

get some 50's and I have a bin for you and that tubro.

Re: Injector Queston

I thought you would have to reprogram the chip (Ultimate) for the 50's?
Bye the way, which is the best 3 in. waste to utilize?

I know Ive been around for a little while but I never really took the time to understand what a BIN is. Can someone explain? I always figured that more I got into this thing the more I would have to learn about chipping and what not.

When somone says they need a BIN file, they are saying that they need a cioy of the program that goes burned into the chip that makes your truck go. BIN is a file extension, but programmers know what you mean when you say that. To use a BIN file, you would either have to burn a new EPROM for your truck or get an OSTRICH emulation system and upload a new BIN file every time you get a new tune done for your truck. For the money, I like the Moates FLASH N BURN1 and a couple ATMEL 256's (these are the EEPROM chips). Using an EEPROM vs. EPROM....with a regular EPROM, the only way to erase the program on the chip is to subject it to UV light for 20-40 minutes in a special erasing unit. Then you need a Pocket Programmer or other chip programmer. Using an EEPROM like Craig Moates sells on his site (www.moates.net) is great at $6 each. When used with the FLASH N BURN1, that same unit electronically erases all the information on the chip in a matter of a few seconds, then burns the BIN file to the chip. You buy 2 EEPROMS, and you can have a street chip and a strip chip. I have tried the OSTRICH emulation before, but after messing around with it for a few months, was unsuccessful. Besides, you'll save money doing it this way. Alternatively, you can get an ULTIMATE 50# calibration-chip from a few of the board members here. If you want something you just put in and forget about, then that is the solution for you.

Re: Injector Queston

So to program a chip, how much is a programmer? Are they hard to find? How hard is it to do? BTW, I may take youup on your offer for the injectors. I just am not sure when.

Re: Injector Queston

Thats awfully cheap. So if I were to buy this stuff, I would be capable of burning my own chips? I just want to make sure this is correct cause I will definately end up getting it. Also, Would I even need the ULTIMATE if I had this? How hard is it to actually burn one?

Call Dan Cheatham. He is a local Sy owner that burns chips. He can either burn one for you, or tell you what you need to do it. PM if you need his #

Re: Injector Queston

That will pretty much take care of you, but you can do it cheaper if you care to do some scrounging.

I take the stock memcal, remove the stock chip, solder a socket in it’s place and then while I’m tuning I pop a zif socket in that and cut up the stock memcal cover to fit back on, that way I can pop chips out when ever I want without too much messing with it

(huh, no attachments, too bad… well I’ve got pictures but not on a server somewhere…)

For a long time I used 27Cxxx chips that I got for free off of assorted outdated computer parts (386 and 486 motherboards use them for their bios chips as well as some video cards, network cards and modems). Hell you can steal a socket off of one of them to attach to the memcal, I’ve done it but the normal plug in sockets usually only run $.10-.15 anyway. I just read and save all the chips/memcals that I mess with before I mess with them so if I ever have to use something that I stole a chip from I just grab one and reburn what was on it.

For the actual chip burning I use a Willem programmer that I picked up for $23 and for actual editing software I’ve gravitated towards TunerPro…

Re: Injector Queston

So I would need actual software on top of the burner? Does this one in the link come with software? Also, how complicatred is it to actually make adjustmenst?
