Hello everyone, I am having trouble with illumination on the cluster and dash lights. I see threads like this everywhere, including on here, the S-10 forum and other various forums that pertain to First Gen S-series platforms but with no solutions or fixes, regardless how hard or easy it is. I hope to find a solution and give some help to others with this problem. I have had many S10s, Sonomas, and Blazers so I am familiar with the wiring. The problem in this particular Sy is that...
The Instrument Cluster has no lights. (no illumination or even dim)the cluster has full function and works great minus the lights.
The radio has illumination.and works perfect up until I switch on the headlights, then the Screen just goes black, still plays great though.
The Ash tray socket has no power.
The HVAC control sockets have no power.
The center console has no power.
I still have to check the glove box switch and the courtesy lights for power. Trying to narrow out the cluster problem first. Here is some information that I have found..
The INSTR LPS 5 amp fuse gets no power. I checked the fuse, it was still good, I have replaced it and still no success. I still need to see if there is a break in the power supply line from the headlight switch, but there is no power to that 5 amp fuse whether the headlights are on or off or with the dimmer scrolled or locked.
I checked the grounds that I found in the SyTy service manual and all seem to check out as being okay. I'm still hunting for either a loose or bad ground but I have a belief that this problem is in a broken splice under the dash. I noticed that someone has removed the underside dash mounting bolts, so I imagine that someone has been under there and pulled something apart or torn a wire. I have found around 3 or 4 broken wires, but still no cluster lights.
Any help or knowledge with previous experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
