Intake tubing - finishing options

Ok, as I'm getting closer to finishing putting all of this back together, I'm looking at the aesthetics now. I have the IC setup from Mike Lee with bare aluminum, non-finished tubing.

What are the options for aluminum tubing. Can you have that chrome plated??? Ceramic coated? I would like polished, but I would prefer not having to polish it again after so long.

I've heard of polishing and then clear powdercoating. Anyone ever done this??

My turbo has the polished compressor housing and I would like to have a nice finish on the intake tubing.......as you can see, it doesn't have a very nice look all bare and unfinished:

Thanks for anyone's input!

I'd polish it. I think if you had it chromed it would probably turn colors from the turbo heat. (I could be wrong though. :dunno: )

Thanks guys. My only issue is how the polished dulls over time, requiring the work to keep it shiney.

Anyone toyed around with clear powdercoat?? I hear that will retain the shine because of not being exposed to the air, causing the dulling.

I wonder if the powdercoat would burn off as well from the heat?

spooldup painted his, don't know how long its been, but I thought it looked quite stealthy. Heres a paste from his thread:

"Also i was able to paint two of the ic pipes. Incase some of you guys want to paint your aluminum piping and don't want to shell out the dough for powdercoating pepboys had this stuff you spray on first and then your paint. I am very pleased with the results. Before i tried baking the pipes and the paint would still just flake off. This stuff works very well."

Powder Coating would probally be best (longest lasting) depending on the $ it may be cost prohibitive. You will not have to worry about cracking, chipping, peeling, or discoloration.

if you polish it, you'll have to keep a close eye on it from this day forth to keep it looking nice. Paint the SOB and be done with it.
