Intercooler blanket

Re: Intercooler blanket

Any info on how "permanent" the blanket would be once it is on? I would like to be able to un-velcro it and take it off for cruise nights and car shows, but quickly put it back on for any other driving. It would be great if you didnt have to dc any hoses to take it off.

Re: Intercooler blanket

Do we have a cost estimate? I'd be in prolly.

Not yet... they need to see the IC before they can start quoting. PTB said that the more we get signed up the lower the cost will be. I'll take a head count sometime this weekend to see where we're at on the numbers. As soon as PTB gets the IC and gets back to me with estimates I'll start a new GP thread.

Re: Intercooler blanket

Can you show me how you have the lines plumbed? I see that you have a elbow and turned towards the pass side. Can you take some pics of that?

Are you talking about the brass elbow?

I have the hoses plumbed into my water heater.

The DEI blanket material is not cheap.

I would guess the blankets would cost between $125-$200.

Unless you could have a shop in TJ make them. LOL

But it all depends also, how many are going to be made.

Re: Intercooler blanket

An oblong opening would not bother me. My concern is that you are already risking the loss of one hard to find SyTy part. Why send both and risk losing 2 CACs when all that needs to be done is a larger hole in the blanket.

I concur. I just spent half an hour boxing up the red one in a 12X12 X18 box. It tips the scale at 10.5 pounds. Two would have required an even bigger box and almost doubled the weight... I will ship it out to TX in the morning on my way into work.

Rob I will get you some pics of both IC's with my machinist scale so that you can forward them to your point of contact. THANKS for getting this rollin'!

I am trying to figure out a different way to run the lines out of the intercooler, and I want to run the lines on the pass side to clean up the drivers side. So, yes, I am talking about the brass elbow:tup:

I was looking at another Sy over the weekend to possibly purchase. I opened up the hood on it and the filler for the IC was spaced towards the passenger's side (away from the engine), but the darn overflow tube was pointed to the center of the engine! First time I'd seen that.

So, I started thinking that it may be best if we have a flap that wraps down from the top of the IC, OVER the filler tube (thus covering it up), and velcroing down at the bottom front of the IC??? This would elminate the need for trying to get an opening in what we feel is the proper location. The second benefit I see is that some of those overflow tube nipples that exit the IC fill neck are getting pretty delicate and may actually break off if we try to stuff an insulation blanket between the overflow hose and the IC..... Comments?? :D

Thanks for shipping out the red IC Mike.. if anyone wants to suggest ideas, please post and I'll make a laundry list of desired features.

Once I noticed the flap that velcroed over the lid in the photos I came to the same conclusion. I think the flap over the lid is the way to go.

Re: Intercooler blanket

Here's the pic of my "typhoon" IC:

IMG_2595.sized.jpg

The dimensions are a mirror image of my "syclone" IC. The measurement for the edge of the IC on the left to the base of the filler neck is 1 3/16 of an inch. On the right, it is 2 1/4 of an inch from the edge to the base of the filler neck. Rob PTB should have my IC by now. If you need any other dimensions or pics, please let me know. Wrapping over the filler neck sounds like the perfect solution for this "problem" to me.

Thanks for the info Mike.... I'll give PTB a call tomorrow and go over all the details with them - I'm hoping we can have a pretty good idea of the design/time frame by Friday afternoon.
