okay i have an idea - lets design a truck as a group as what we think it will take to run in the 7's

Sheet Metal - $
Stock Cab - Floor Removed and channeles ( lower center of gravity )
Windshield - Stock
Dashboard - Tin (Similat to Syborg TT)

Doors - Lightened ( Similar to 9 Sec GT Doors )
Windows - Lexan (all power hardware removed)
Door Release - NHRA Leagal
Door Panels - Smooth ( Similar to Mike Calahans )

Fenders - Skinned ( Similar to Leaches Syclone)
Hood - Carbon Fiber or Glass ( Single Layer - Pin On)
Bed Sides - Skinned ( Similar to Leaches Syclone)

Cladding - Your going to need fiberglass to shave a few Pounds
Front & Rear Supports - Tubular ( Similar to Gerbers Ty II )

Bed Wing - Similar to Leaches or 9 Sec Gt

Chassis - $75,000.00
Tube Chassis - Similar to a Pro Stock - but your going to have to add Front Diff
Harness - 5 Point
Seating - LW really hard tin Seat (Cover it in Cloth like the TTV8 Sy)

Rear Suspension - Not Really sure 4 link or ladder bar
Rear Differential - 9" or 8.8" ( i prefer the 9 )
Rear Drive Shaft - Carbon Fiber (just in case it breaks)

Front Suspension - ( RPM Arms since you can buy them off the shelf )
Front Differential - ?
Front Drive Shaft - Carbon Fiber (just in case it breaks)
Front Half Shats - Carbon Fiber (just in case it breaks)

Engine - $50,000.00
Seems like the Mike's have this covered (Mike B, Mike L, Mike C) - gotta be a Mike thing
Engine Diaper

Transmission - Lenco or a GLide

Trans & Transfercase Shield - Just in case it comes apart
Tranny Blanket / Diaper

Exhaust
Stainless Steel Headers, DP & Exhaust

Intercooler
Air to Water - ( Similar to 9 Sec GT Doors )

Electrical - $3000.00
AAW Universal 14 Wire Harness
Autometer Gauges

okay there ya go that's my recipe for a 7.5 sec truck

not hard to build - just expensive as hell to do it right

Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party, but Marty, could you elaborate on "9 Sec GT" please? Is this a member or a truck I haven't heard of before? Bad memory, ya know.

Speaking of, what about us GT guys? We like to build fast trucks too! ;)

Billingsly had a sonoma gt i saw ran at U.S. 41 years ago. Went 11's on nuts and high 9's on the gun.

Was a 23* fuel injected motor. Not sure if even or oddfire.

Coil over suspension. I know more about it jsut can't think right now.

once you start really considering a 7sec truck , take the syclone you want to go 7s in push it back out to the drive way and buy some tubing Not one piece of the stock frame will pass tech, Not to mention a AWD vehicle will not pass tech for 7sec runs in IHRA or NHRA also buy a V8 the only syclone piece will be the sticker on the door

You should be able to get it done with just backhalving the truck I would believe IMHO

front frame wont pass, and 4x4 trucks are not permitted to go that fast NHRA doesnt care that were AWD its 4x4 to them

Ahh ok, I dont know tech rules.

I am just saying that to reach that time a full tube chassis is not needed.

Now to do it legally might be another story lol

I think Jeff Scotts typhoon is gonna make a lot of people rethink fast AWD

I doubt it, as I never really built it to be "FAST" Hence why it still has AC, cruise, full stereo.

Now anything I did build I did built for more power later but there are still a few things that won't handle big power. Mainly the bottom end at this point.

Re: Is a 7.50 Syclone possible??

per NHRA rules a 4x4 truck cannot run faster that 9.99 so By NHRA rules thats as fast as a syclone (non 2wd) can go

Beavis

Still plays with trucks
Re: Is a 7.50 Syclone possible??

I think ED HESS went through this with his and it was determinded AWD is different then 4WD in the ruling........ :dunno:

BFD.... That hasn't stopped all of the 9 second (and 8 second) Syclones that already exist, from going down the tracks.. I doubt anyone is trying to actually compete in some NHRA certified competition with a 9 second Syclone either way.

ed hess

race or get outta the way

yes I called nhra tech and the intent of the limitation on 4wd vehicles was based on the higher center of gravity of theavg 4wd truck.

no problem with awd be it in a talon, syclone, ty, eclipse etc.

talking about suspension stuff Shep doenst run the stock IRS on his talon its a hybrid solid xle set up a mix between a ladder bar and 4 link I think. I have one picture of it on my home computer I think. He took the 07 season off to do some major chassis/ safety stuff should wicked fast when he runs it this year. maybe a 7.00??!!! Us DSM guys can only hope. Shit there is a kid out of Nampa Idaho that has a super fast talon that still runs stock IRS he went 9.0xx and after the upgrades he should be in the mid 8's I would assume maybe only a couple of years away from going 7's. I think its feasible with AWD and slicks in a sub 2600 pound truck/car making 1400 plus HP

I doubt Jeff in Nampa will be running his Eagle out at Firebird much anymore. After he finally broke into the 9's he was issued a citation for not having any form of roll cage. Now, I don't know if he's changed his mind or not, but last I heard, he refused to put a roll cage in it. That was in 2006, mind you. I didn't really see him last year, so I don't know what he's doing now... He also has a bad tendancy to blow his engine up once or twice a year.

Also, Í would remember that not only is he running an absurd amount of boost but he's running a three stage nitrous system. (300 shot?) Something that I don't think any of the Sy/Ty guys do.

BTW, can anyone tell me who 9 Sec GT is that Marty mentioned earlier?

EDIT: I just found a few pictures from his 2007 season, but he's running a parachute now. I still don't see a rollcage though, but it appears Firebird is letting him race again with the parachute.

Scroll up some. I posted what I knew. It was at US 41 with Billingsly racings.

Fuel Injected motor
23* heads
Coil over Suspension

11's on motor, 9's on the gun. That is what I remember off the top of my head.
