Is it safe to tow it?

I want to bring my Ty home with a U Haul car dolly towed behind an F150. If I pull up on it and put it in neutral I'll be fine right? I don't want to damage my transfer case.

remove the rear driveshaft and get a plug to insert into the xfer case.

Nope, putting it in neutral still rotates a lot of transmission parts inside. Being the engine isn't running the pump isn't pumping fluid in trans, so the parts are spinning dry.

Pull it on dolly, remove rear drive shaft is the only safe way, unless you rent a full trailer.

a typhoon would be a little heave for the dolly and it will probably kick your f150 butt. u want something with a trailer break.

No way.. A F150 would have no issue dragging around just under 4000lbs.. I think they have a towing capacity if 8 or 10 thousand..

I doubt the extra 4000 lbs would really stress the brakes that much either although a trailer with brakes would be nice..

an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Rent a trailer. You don't want to deal with a messed up drive train:tup:

I believe U-haul tow dollies have surge brakes. So no problem there.

i believe not , the car trailers have surge brakes the tow dollies have no brakes is the correct answer.

i don't know what the cost or if you can even rent them. but free wheel hubs are pretty cool. although im not sure that the syty wheels would fit with the hubs on. food for thought.

Re: Is it safe to tow it?

The U-Haul car trailer (Auto Transport) keeps all wheels of the towed vehicle off the ground and is ideal for long-distance moves. We gave it a low height and extended ramps to provide the best angle for loading and unloading vehicles with low clearance or spoilers. Our car trailer's fender also tilts out for easy access to the towed vehicle, and a surge brake provides maximum stopping assistance.

The U-Haul car dolly (Tow Dolly) keeps the front wheels of the towed vehicle off the ground and is a great low-cost rental choice for front-wheel-drive cars. Its low height and longer ramp mean the loading angle is shallow to accommodate vehicles with low clearance or spoilers. Our car dolly also has a swivel design that eliminates rear-tire wear and improves maneuverability.

not only have i used both the trailer and the dollies but this is right off thier web site , i fail to see where it says the dolly has a surge brake or any brake for that fact.

Re: Is it safe to tow it?

Years back I used my 2000 Lightning to tow a friends ty from nj to sc on a dolly. We just unbolted the rear drive shaft from the rear and strapped it up out of the way. It was probably close to 700 miles with no problems. You will be fine as long as you unbolt the rear drive shaft.

Re: Is it safe to tow it?

Unhook the rear driveshaft as mentioned, or get a regular drive on trailer. I used a U-Haul drive-on to haul my SHO about 60 miles, and it worked out great, but then again I was using a LWB K2500 to pull it.
