For $155.65 + tax shipped it doesn't look too bad! It's on special right now and I was thinking of picking up something like this to replace the OEM stereo (keeping the OEM stereo with the truck btw).

The features are impressive (to me anyway): The XOVision XO1911 is a complete DVD receiver with a built-in 3.5" screen, AM/FM radio, USB Input, DVD player and fully detachable face Listen to your favorite music or watch videos from your Ipod, MP3 player or USB flash drive.

Here's the dimensions,

Product in Inches (L x W x H): 7.5 x 7.25 x 2.75

Is this a true 1.5DIN or is it somewhere between a 1 and a 1.5?

Nope, that's really a strange size for a head unit. 7 1/8 x 2 1/16 is DIN (European cars).... 7 1/8 x 4 is double din (big Toyotas, etc.)... this really looks like it was made for some oddball use and just ended up on the shelves.

What the heck does DIN stand for anyway?
I mean I know of the various DIN sizes (1/2, full and 2) but what does it stem from?

DIN is the abbreviated name of the Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Institute for Standardization) and is used in the names of its standards, like:

DIN A, as for example DIN A3 or DIN A4, is a scale for paper sizes.
DIN connector, one of a number of electrical (audio/video/keyboard) connectors following DIN standards.
DIN fitting, a type of high-pressure air or gas connection used in some modern very high-pressure scuba gear.
DIN ISO 7736, size standard for car audio head units.
DIN rail, a common system for mounting circuit breakers and industrial control equipment inside equipment racks.
DIN ski binding scale, scale to ensure ski bindings release under the same force at all skiing destinations worldwide.
DIN 1451, German Standard Committee chosen typeface from 1936.
DIN 72552 is a standard for automobile electric terminal numbers
FF DIN, 1995 digital font

Well, I ended up ordering a different head unit.

PTID5300.JPG

It's got a much larger screen. A 5.3" widescreen should have a height of 2.6". Based on that and estimating the little plastic strips on the top & bottom, it should fit snug in the existing 1.5DIN slot a little better than the IO Vision unit. It also matches my Razor phone keys. :rotf:

I picked up a pair of 4x6 Infinity Kappa's for the front and a set of 4x10 Kenwoods for the rear also. Now I can't wait to install it once it arrives along with a few other interior goodies I'm making.

thats a single DIN deck with an oversized face, so it's gonna stick out of the dash a couple of inches. I was looking into one too until I installed one in a customers car. The quality of the thing changed my tune really fast....

Don't bother ever thinking of hooking up external amps to those decks - 1V max preouts - that means under normal use the output in in the millivolts. You'll need a line driver to ever make it work right.

Don't think the Kappa 4x6's are gonna fit in the dash too well. The holes won't line up with the factory mounting studs, the magnets are too deep and the tweeter sticks up too high. Been there done that. They'll go in the hole. but you won't be able to mount them to anything.

Seems that Pioneer is one of the few who still makes a GM compatible 4x6" speaker.

thanks let me know when you get it in how it works nd sounds. also how the dvd movies look on it.

Will do. I'll post some installed pics also. It won't arrive for another 5-7 days (shipping from Cali to South Carolina). I need to research some "how to" threads on stereo/speaker replacement in the meantime.

This brings up the thought for our stereo philes to post up a detailed thread/sticky with decent to high end componets that Sy/Ty enthusiasts can go out and buy that will fit well in most of our factory mounting points.
Part #'s......brand,placement ans sizes...amped or preamped....indash CD recievers or DVD dispays and what sises....maybe even final project budget ??:2cents:

Some of us just want an updated clean looking and sounding set up....and some are going to want 2 gagillion watt competitive systems....this would be more aimed at the upgrade 1 through 10 level type of approach........any thoughts???:squint:
Cheers,Vinny
