ITS mini gate sounds..

ordered an its mini gate from mike lee yesterday. i have seen on the boards here that the externals are "loud". was just wondering if the external wastegate sounded more like a blow off valve, or like open exhaust, or ......... im running an open down pipe right now so i cant imagine what could be louder, but i wanted to know what kinda sound these things made. thanks

If your running an open dp, the sound wont be signifigant. As far as the sound's charaterstics. Theres no whoosing, no chirping, no whistling.. mostly the sound of more exhaust. To me, sounds great when your pushing it.

ya thats what i figured. but searching i found a few posts that made it sound like it was the worst sound they ever heard. ok sounds good. cant wait to have good boost control.

with no dump pipe it sounds like a big air leak. If you put about 12" of pipe of the exhaust part of the wg, then it will sound good and ALOT quieter.

hey its mike lee. yea i guess im gonna have to give it a shot and then if i end up being bothered by the noise then ill have to get myself some pipe. i wanted to ask you, if i just hook the lines straight up to a vacuum source to the wastegate what will be the base boost with the minigate?

The external wastegates are dual port meaning they have two pressure sources (top/side)

if you hook manifold pressure straight to the side vacuum port, then you will have base boost. If you apply pressure to the top then the boost will go up above base pressure. Depending on how much pressure is applied will correlate to how much boost. With pressure to the side of the gate you should see ~10psi.

FYI, make sure the hot air which will exit the wg is not facing any wires, plastics etc or they will melt.

Mike did you come up with a 15 lb base spring for the Mini Gate?

as far as i know 10psi is the stiffest spring at this time. It may be possible to adapt a deltagate spring or shim your current one to achieve more base boost, but i have yet to try this on the minigate, only the progates which are different.
