Jake is here, maybe to stay?

Wuddup fellas my name is Jake and I'm 20 years old in Rockford, IL.

I am currently looking at a few Ty's. I drive a 2001 2-door Blazer LS 4x4 and bought it off a friend for $4800. A few repairs and I'm going to sell this beast.

I've been looking at a few Ty's: a white 92' that is for sale on this site for around $6600.00 with 111,000 miles with no engine light and a rebuilt engine and trans.
The other one is a black 93' Ty with 95,000 miles and asking $9500.00 for it.

Suppose these two trucks are bone stock and have been well maintained and run well... these seem like pretty good prices! A little too good... what do you guys think?

The black one is a local seller, I've only looked at it once and talked to the guy on the phone once. Looks well-maintained.

The white one is a seller from on the site here in the classifieds.

Anyways, holla to the forums and if anyone can assist me then please do!!!

P.S. what do you guys pay for full coverage on insurance?

Eric is in this post trying to holla back, telling you that resale value has dipped in the last year.

Good luck with that around here :rotf:

Without seeing the trucks, its hard to determine whats a fair price for everyone here.
For full coverage I pay $90 a month with State farm, a poor driving record, and multiple vehicles.

P.S. If its your only vehicle, DO NOT get a syty. Trust me, Ive learned
If you do it anyways make sure its a stock well maintained one and dont bother modding it too much. If you know them pretty well you can have a modded D.D. one, but if not its too much headache.

Well it WOULD be a DD and no I wouldn't be modding it at all for the time being. From what I've read on previous posts I hear they are pretty reliable if the person didn't beat up on it too bad or mod it too much. But now it sounds like I shouldn't get one?

How much do you drive a week? My stock syclone cost me $100 in gas a week compared to $25 I spend in a ford contour. It gets expensive.

They are fairly reliable if you only do reliability mods and don't beat them... mine was a DD for 12 years with only 2 breakdowns (alternator both times  ) ... that said, they are getting old and things will break. I drive my truck as close to daily as I can, but it seems like every time I drive it there is some other little thing to fix

Re: Jake is here, maybe to stay?

I would be driving it quite often during the week. No long commutes, which probally would be better, but primarily around town driving... school and work and friends. I drove a 87' 5-speed turbo supra before so this car doesn't seem as old! LoL... plus that car had something wrong with it every day. Head gasket, water pump, etc... I invested alot of money into that car and don't want to be in the same boat again. That being said sounds like you guys are steering me away from it. Probally wouldn't be a wise decision at this time then.

I'd love to see you get one but its not always a good idea, depends on your financial situation. If its not that great and its a stretch to buy it in the first place then dont get one. If you have the money and can afford it somewhat easily then go for it. You would be better off buing one and also buying a $500-$1000 beater car that good on gas and reliable for every day. Maybe an old civic or S10 or something along those lines.

Re: Jake is here, maybe to stay?

Thanks mang I really appreciate your input. I'll take it into consideration and let you guys know what I end up doing. I have the cash, but the whole reason behind selling my Blazer is the 12 mpg. I figured I wouldn't care so much about the gas if i was driving a Ty lol! But I will weigh out my options and let you know 12second. Thanks!

Re: Jake is here, maybe to stay?

My Sy gets 14mpg and its stock.....start modding and it goes even lower....and if I am not mistaken the Ty's get worse gas mileage. Its a great "weekend crusier" if you ask me ---

not true... ive gotten 20mpg with my 52 and open DP....all depends on how heavy you are on the gas all the time. chip tuning is your friend. typhoons get better mpg due to better air flow over the truck.

Re: Jake is here, maybe to stay?

I get 17 - 19 depending on how much of a lead foot I am... and my truck is far from stock and right now running pretty stinking rich because I was trying to get rid of some knock which turned out to be false, still haven't managed to make it go away though :banghead:
