Damn why you even ask if you already made your mind up?
Jasper = poo.You could spend a little more now to save yourself a lot later on.

FWIW I bought McCoy's $4100 build 5 years and 60k miles ago,nary a problem since.

Re: Jasper engines

Yikes!! It would seem that Jasper is either at the top or bottom of the list, depending on how you might look at.

In addition to the others mentioned I happen to know a well known builder out here on the left coast that builds very fast natural and blown engines (but not turbo'ed AFAIK) but you're a bit far.

(I watch one of his natural Mustangs do 9's all the time)

when Tim had Jasper rebuild the motor, he gave them his block and gave them a list of parts he wanted in it. He didnt use Jasper for the "parts knowledge" or anything, just for their labor/machining, PLUS it came with a warrenty for like 3+ years, so if he blew it up, they got to try again, no charge to him.
Yeah, and I found out later that he himself even supplied some of the parts AND he had a friend that worked at the facility where his engine was built, not to mention he engraved all the "special" parts and the block with his VIN to make sure he got what he paid for and got HIS parts back.

Let him go get his precious Jasper motor.... later on when hes crying that he has to sell his truck due to he cant stand the debt and constant maintanence and problems hes having due to a shit build, someone will swipe it up off the classifieds for dirt cheap.

This is just chaos in the making...why on earth would you ask everyone for their opinion, only to not listen and defend what decision you had already made? Seriously, people are only trying to help you...just what you asked for, right? We all wish you luck, but don't go blaming us or even Jasper if the the thing blows. YOU AND ONLY YOU ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DECISION!!!

Re: Jasper engines

I only asked if anyone had an engine built by jasper and how did it go, not a general concensis. Oh believe me I hear you and I didn't ask if you liked them or not maybe you need to listen.

Um,maybe YOU need to listen.Do you think you are the first person that ever came up with the thought "Um gee, them Jazper enjuns sure is cheap and theys got a warrentee too"

We are just trying to relate the experiences of the dozens of noobs like you that tried this route and ultimately ended up phucked.Take it like you want, but we are really trying to help you not make the same mistake that many others have.

As long as you are accountable for your own decisions, then go for it. Problem is, that people who are stupid enough :banghead: to not listen to experts about what to do with something as important as an engine rebuild, usually are intelligent enough to find themselves accountable when neccessary. :fist:

Wecome to the board! Good luck here! :screwy:

Re: Jasper engines

as i said before, a warranty having to do with any part of our drivetrain is pointless. i say this because when i bought my first ty from a used car lot they offered a warranty, my parents urged me to get it. well i never used it cuz i didn't trust anyone else to work on my truck. i ended up paying the price of $1200 going down the drain.

even if you pay a little more in the beginning you'll be getting a build far beyond a part installer, jasper. jasper engines aren't performance motors in my opinion, to me they are more like crate motors. there is a reason we are a little upity about this subject, cuz as stated before we don't want to see a fellow sytyer get into a pitfall and not know what to do to get out of it. do yourself a favor and get it built right the first time, thru one of our amazing vendors.

Re: Jasper engines

Ok my 2cents. I was going to get a Jasper. Then when the cost was going to be around 4k after shipping and everything else. I decieded to go with a McCoy. I figured a few thousand now would be better than 4k now and 5k later. I knew that it would be made with better parts and would have a better chance making it another 100k instead of a Jasper wich even had a bad name back when my grandad was dealing with the automotive industry. Think of what will happen when the Jasper motor goes to crap in 6 months how much more money in the long run will it cost. Removal and install of the motor and also having to go thru the headache to be with out the truck until it gets installed. Anyway warranty doesn't mean crap if they don't own up to it. I wish you the best of luck with your decision. Also think of the respect that those other builders have on this forum to me that means alot if they sucked then they wouldn't be posted on here. I would also ask how many other syty motors Jasper has built. Also get what you can in writing for the warranty.

Re: Jasper engines

A warranty isn't all that great, if you still have to install every time (or pay labor for installaton). It will grow old when your R&R a syty motor.

$4K isn't that cheap either, the stock head are nothing special. I would think a reputable local machine shop should be able to do it for that price.
