Just another "CA Smog" question

I've been on the search button for a while but I don't think I found my answer. My Sy needs a smog soon and was wondering if the stock chip would have to be put back on to pass? Only mods I have are TT chip, 3 bar map, and plx wide band. Run on 95 Oct. Everything else is fully stock. This is the one thing I hate the most about Cali, ( I'm sure all the cali folks can agree?) the F###ing smog regulations.:tdown:

Nah you should be fine with the chip and 3 bar... I've passed with that before.

I have a KB intake and a small air filter on the valve cover which kills condors and baby seals, and single use plastic bags fly out of my exhaust pipe as I get 11.3mpg... I have a whole mess of problems on my hands. But you'll be fine.

Actually, since you're bay area, can't you get a PO box up in Sonoma and register your SyTy's there? Unless they changed it (highly possible), there used to not be smog requirements in Sonoma county or some town in Sonoma. It's worth the cost of the PO Box IMO just to not have to deal with it. I'd look into it if I lived up there, but that's me.

Ok cool. Hopefully it'll pass. Funny you mention that. Yeah I think there is certain area codes in sonoma county that are smog exempt. My father-in-law's cousin (car guy) lives up in Mendocino County and he tells me that it's a smog exempt county. I might have to talk to him and maybe like you said, get a PO Box..or even you his address. I fear smog days:lol:

Yeah, I've never failed on emissions... it's been visual inspection every time. In both trucks.

I've gone in, had the gas cap pass, and the guy failed me because the inlet to the tank doesn't have a little flapper over the hole. No idea how that could possibly have any kind of affect on the environment, emissions, or otherwise... So I took it to another smog center and the guy there didn't even say anything about it and passed me.

If the PO box thing doesn't pan out, ask around... there's always someone who knows a guy who knows a guy who will let you slide on some visuals.

I'm actually curious about passing with an alky kit... You never know if these guys will have a problem with hoses going into the intake. Any CA guys with alky had any probs passing here?

2 years ago I had to talk to the guy who knew the guy and still was giving me crap for the alky kit. Immidiately threw up a red flag. So I'm gonna guess you'll have a problem.Then again, my pump is visible as you open the hood. Not sure how yours is installed.

I haven't installed mine yet. Been sitting in my garage with my CTS-v brakes for the last 5 years haha. Probably last in line on my list of crap to do on this money pit. It'll get done eventually.

Anyway, I remember reading something a long long time ago where someone put the sprayer nozzle on the bottom side of the upper IC, and routed the lines all stealthy to avoid problems with inspection.

To me it would seem to be more of a PITA to have it on the bottom for testing/troubleshooting vs unhooking the lines every other year for smog.

Yup, my line is pretty stealthy but my pump is visible.(sits on my fender well) Of course this is in my Ty so don't need to worry about that in the Sy.

I passed with the TT chip. The EGR is disabled in the chip, but the computer doesn't even use it during the test.
