Just got in an accident with the SY ---

Yeah, I was being an idiot and ran into the back of an SUV . It was rush hour ... and I was just on my way for a sub sandwich.

The lane I was in turned into a RIGHT TURN ONLY so I look in my rear view , then side mirrors before I made the lane change. The SECOND I got into my new lane, the lady in front of me SMASHED the brakes ( to where all I saw was her rear end raise up ) and I couldnt stop in time. WHAT A BUMMER!!!

I will need a new fender, radiator, grille, lights, and fiberglass hood ( probably more , but I cant bring myself to even go back out to look at it for pics ).

Her suv just had a small dent and scratch from my license plate.

I even called off of work because I feel so sick about it. Its my first accident ever. To top it off , the cop gave me a ticket for following too closely. I will have to take another day off of work for that too ---

Thanks guys, you are making me feel a LOT better. The problem is , I was about to jump into a full rebuild on the truck (engine, tranny, and suspension ) ... and now the money will be going into a paintjob, hood, radiator, fender, cladding ( maybe ).

I cant force myself into walking outside to take pics, I am still feeling sick about it

To top it off, I got a ticket for following too close, and will have to take a day off of work for court.

Who sells stock grills?

I am scared to pop the hood ... I dont think it will re-latch or even open.

Oh yeah, I only have liability . This is my first accident ... ever. Wish it would have been the z28 instead, lol ---

Doh :banghead: At least you don't have to deal with trying to convince the Ins Co. what your truck is worth and how to fix it. You get to do that on your own.

Yeah, part of me feels dumb , but like you said ... part of me is happy to not have full coverage.

I am STILL fighting ( 3 months ) to get reimbursted for the rear cladding/paint work when the lady backed into my SY. NOBODY could find the parts but me, so I scored them on here ... and they want RECEIPTS from a business; guess what? People on here are NOT businesses ... we are enthusiasts just helping each other out. I am out close to $500 for that one!!! ---

If you can afford 3 cars you can afford full coverage. Chalk it up as a lesson learned.

+1. I have full coverage on the vehicles that are worth more than $2k, and liability and uninsured motorist coverage on the other ones. I learned that lesson long ago.

I was trying to take advantage of having a paid off vehicle ... and had a clear record of accidents for the past 10 years. OOPS . My main reasoning is $100 less per month, for the 2 years I have had the truck = $2500 , then $500 deductable. I have $3k that I wouldnt have....plus the ins. company doesnt value our trucks correctly. I know I wont be this lucky EVERYTIME (totalled vehicles would really get me) ... but I think I can fix this for $3k.

I just added the pics , wow it looks nasty. If you guys could see her SUV you would laugh at the difference.

I need a hood, drivers door ( didnt know that until now ) , grille, drivers side blinker and headlight, bumper cover, side fender cladding, new bumper, the hood latch is pushed INTO the radiator ( so new radiator ) , and drivers fender. Atleast the bed and body look to be aligned so nothing is TOO tweaked.

I cant get the hood to unlatch from pulling inside the cab ... any suggestions, lol?! ---

Your front bumper cover might be salvageable, you will probably need a new support though. The front bumper often bounce right back. One of my friends who has a Ty say had one that look to be junk & stretched, he used a heat gun and it popped tight back into shape.

You will need a new radiator support as well. It doesn't look that bads, the frame doesn't looks like tweaked, which often make these repairs into a big projects.

For the hood relase cable, it looks like your hood release is accessible from the front.

Actually both peices of cladding seem fine ... the front cover has a tear, and the drivers fender has a 2" crack. It may be fixable before its painted.

The bumper support looks like a V hahaha.... and the door got split in the front but can probably be saved before paint too.

I hated the way the fiberglass hood flopped in the wind at 50mph ... so I will get a goodmark steel hood.

How much are grilles (who has them) , and s10 fenders? I really didnt want a paintjob yet , but there is a little rust here and there, so I could use it anyway ; and always wanted painted cladding.

Atleast the radiator is only $200 too. Definately a learning experience ---
