Where's Christofferson when you need him.

Right Here! Yeah, I think Will has sumed it up the best.

"SyTy's are like supermodel girlfriends, you have to deal with their shit all the time, but when they put out, they PUT OUT."

Nice Phoon. Red/Red is SWEET! My roomates old 92 Ty with exhaust, K&N cone, fresh tune-up, and 17psi ran 13.30.

Thank you all for the help/compliments...You guys seem like a nice easy going bunch...On the other hand some of the Buick Boards are full of stuck up "Gods gift" know it alls so its nice to take a break from that...

Just wish it wasnt so cold out...20degrees makes it hard to do anything on the truck...O well

Welcome!
Expect high 13s in stock form. The winning stock Ty at nats ran a best 14.01 (hot and humid). Note that some of the numbers given above are at higher than stock boost levels (will and sy2206), so don't freak out if you can't do 13.5 with 15 psi.

Any premium 6X9 will work in the rear, but you may need a aftermarket grille that extends out an inch to provide clearance for bigger magnets. I'm running some Infinity's that fit (barely) with the stock grilles.

The fronts are problematic. Most premium 4X6 will have clearance problems at the magnet, especially on the driver side. I'm running some Polks that sound good, but I had to hack the grilles and file the back corner of the instrument pod to get them in. Plate units (infinity, etc.) will fit better, but I didn't like the sound nearly as much as the Polks.

I've owned 3 S-blazers/2Tys and found the bass to be lacking with every stereo config I tried unless I added a subwoofer of some sort. Don't need a huge thumper, but something. I currently have an amp and 6" pioneer free-air unit embedded in the tailgate. Doesn't get in the way, but fills in the bottom end. HTH, and once again, welcome.

Yeah, I'll get some pics this weekend. Oh, and the sub is 8 inches, not 6. I cannot seem to type this morning......

No, you'll find them at the lighting forums. This past summer I mmet a glassboro police office who also bought a red/red. He was at the Fuddruckers meet checking out my trucks.

Welcome

Welcome

Derek,

I just purchased a Red / Red 92 Typhoon (#1537) in SoCal with 30, 000 miles on it

It ran a 12.9 sec @ 104 mph the 1st time i took it out running 91 octane gas, 18 psi boost, T1 timing setting on chip, and SMC Alky kit.

60 ft time was 1.8 sec

My truck still has 33 lb injectors and when doing a Datamaster run, I saw my injector duty cycle going over 200 % at WOT. I think i need to pick up some 50 lbers real soon

Good luck with your truck

Sorry it took so long, lots going on right now. Here ya go:

1. View from the front. It looked cooler without the cheap RatShack grille, but started collecting dings in the surround foam. The grille is now concave (my truck is not a garage queen).

2. With the cover flipped up. The styro insulation spaces the sub out so the magnet doesn't touch the outer skin of the tailgate. The trim panel will stretch over it (barely). The sub is screwed to the tailgate inner panel (using "J"-clip-nuts and 1-1/2 inch screws), sandwiching the foam. I also attached sound deadening panels to the tailgate skin.

3. Detail of the amp mount. Some cutting and drilling required (as if the holes for the sub driver didn't). If I ever put the Ty back to factory stock condition, I'll need a new tailgate. The amp must get enough cooling, I've never had a problem with it, but I don't attempt to rattle the neighbors' windows, either.

HTH...
