Well, I finally went ahead and tore down the block that came out of "the duck"
Well unfortunately the crank is a lost cause. For those who dont remember, I bought the truck non-running cause the mechanic who worked on the truck dropped something in the manifold which in turn took out the #2 piston and cylinder, the head was already removed when I bought it.
So figuring all the damage would be in the front of the motor (I was right) I started with the #2 rod. Upon removing the cap and inspecting the bearing, it looked a little more worn than i would have liked but I wasnt totally disappointed.
On to #1, this is what hurts. After removing the cap, first thing i see that the bearing is spun. So now after shoving the rod out of the way, I was able to remove the bearing only to see extreme and uneven wear.
So i go back to stamping the rest of the rods and removing them one by one.
#3, 5 & 6 all seem to be in fine shape, showing your normal 90K miles of wear.
#4 looks friggin brand new. The bearing isnt even discolored and there is no wear on the journal, figures right?
So now onto the mains.....
Pop the rear main seal then crack all the caps loose. I started with the center and removed the rear. All seem to be in fair shape so I go and remove the front. Hey, guess what the front main has something in common with #1 rod journal....ITS SCREWED! The front main is actually the worst out of everything, its like a friggin valley in that journal.
Oh well, so thats basically gonna go for a toss into the scrap pile.
I am picking up another 4.3 motor, but its a 2nd gen motor and in a previous thread I made last week was told to be cautious of the newer cranks, so I guess I have to hunt a new one out now........
