KB INTAKE

My ass. Look at it.
Would anyone recommend it? My crossover tube is cracking under the hose clamps, afraid to go too tight. Thought I should upgrade.

The exact same thing is happening to my crossover pipe.
Everyone will give you a different answer to this. A lot of people just have a K&N conical filter on the end of the crossover w/ the airbox deleted. Not to many use the Kenne Bell system and it gets mixed reviews. Others say the only way to do it right is to move the battery and put a air system where the battery is. There is no real research to answer what is the best setup.

Good luck!

i'll chime in.
i have it.
most folks do not use the enclosure, at least in the winter.
the filter nearly fills it - therefore, no room for air to flow properly, really.
it's nice and quiet, and is certainly better, imo, then the oem crossover by a mile.
mine is cut on top to match a hood vent.
everything fits nicely, and it comes with fender hole block off plates, also.
its the best you can do w/o moving the battery, i think, in a kit form.

opinions do vary on this piece.

As much as I hate to do it, I think I'll probably relocate the battery under the stock location I need to get a new Batt. before spring anyway. I have the IC hoses run through the fender, and they may interfere with air flow.

I wonder, would a cone, or cylindrical filter with a short straight 3" pipe, directly above the turbo work? Or would the air be too hot right there next to the turbo? It would eliminate the need to relocate the batt. and/or the overflow resevoir.

Thanks,
RJ

Bummer. :(
But how much of a difference would an 4" cyl. filter w/elbow be where stock batt. is at? temp. wise. I would imagine that there would be more air circulation on the drivers side near the radiator than in a "hole" where the batt. was.

I too thought about that but someone brought to my attention that the filter would yes suck in more air that way and it would be a short shot to the turbo (less restrictive) but your sucking air striaght from the downpipe right so that can't be good.. more air vs hot or higher temp air so i'd see how you can fit it in thre with out sucking up the downpipe's heat..

I was just taking another look under the hood, it might also be too hard to have a decent sized filter there, there is not a whole lot of room to play with directly above the turbo, there are also a lot of hoses in that area to try and avoid.

Well, I happen to like my KB kit. The benefit IMO is not increased airflow, but rather colder air being drawn into the turbo. I had the K&N on the end of the crossover tube. The truck would run .1 quicker with the headlight and headlight bucket removed, because of the cold air reaching the filter. I put the KB in and the truck ran the same times as with the headlight removed. Same track, same day, same conditions. I like this so because the truck runs the same without the hassle of removing the headlight.

I now race with the passenger's inner fender removed for quick wastegate adjustments. So I drilled numerous large holes in the bottom of the KB enclosure with the expectation that more air in would improve my ET or MPH. It did not. Therefore, I think the KB is plenty efficient as is, at least for high 12 second trucks like mine.

have a new idea. I'll place a smaller battery below the stock location, Elbow on to a cone or 4" filter, and make a sheet aluminum shield to keep filter from sucking in hot air (think this has been done before). To allow more air into this "box", I will make holes in the metal around the headlight fixture. Think it may have the best of both worlds.

Anyone recommend a smaller battery?, I have a Ghetto huge Exide, 875CCA, I know a smaller size battery w/lots of CCA can be fairly expensive. Dont need a super bad a$@ battery, but definitely a nice one, not being fuggly like this exide will also be great!

Thanks,
RJ
